Post your Kessel Run results here (especially if you won)

By El_Tonio, in X-Wing

I had a great Kessel Run in Lyon France today, I played the Imps and fielded 4X Academy Pilots + Howrunner (Swarm Tactics) + Vader (Markmanship). I won every battle in the night, my dices were really hot.

I won the finals, we used a mofied version for it: free 100 points squads using the three ships (A-wings and falcon for rebels and Slave-1 and Interceptors for Imps). Playing like the imps i trashed the Falcon pretty earlier in the game, and made it for a easy win.

I took home the Falcon, one A-Wing and One Interceptor, since my Girlfriend went to the semi-finals. We had 4 players in our Kessel run, the second player ended with Firespray and one A-Wing and the 4th place with the last Interceptor.

It was a great night, and i'm anxious to buy my own Slave I in february!

I went 4-0 at the KRT at Paradox in Fargo ND. Ended up running Hothie's world build as a couple buddies wanted to see that one in action.

First round was a bye.

Second was against Eric who ran Stele with expert handling and cluster missles, Backstabber, and 4x AP. He consceded victory to me once I took out four of his ships.

Third was against James who ran Biggs with R2F2, Wedge with R2 generic and Protons, and Dutch with 2 protons and an Ion. I set up in the middle, he set up Biggs and Dutch on the side with Wedge in the middle. Wedge went down second round along with howlrunner. Biggs went down in the third. His Y-wing ended up just moving about asteroids. He didn't want to call it because he might have a chance to win (was 5 Ims vs. his 1). Took a bit to corral him and then it was easy to tear the Y-Wing down.

Ended up I had to face James again in the last round. I took the Empire side. I had Scarlet and the generic interceptor go down the middle, and Fel down the side where he had placed the named A-Wing. Second round I was behind him. I ended up focusing on the A-Wings first. The one with the missles went down first, then the named one. The generic Interceptor was the only ship on my side to get hit once with a crit that got rid of a secondary weapon. He still wanted to play it out even though the Falcon was down to three hull against those odds. After that I got him with the heavy laser cannon at 3 hits and 1 crit to no evade on his part.

I ended up taking the Slave-I over the Falcon. I had a lot of fun, and hope something like this happens again soon.

The winning player was the (other) undefeated guy, who's a friend. I'm fairly sure he played this:

  • Wedge + Swarm Tactics
  • Garven Dreis + R2 Astromech
  • 2x Rookie Pilot

I played the Biggs/Wedge build, Jake played the one you listed.

My winning squad was:

  • Wedge + Swarm Tactics + R2 Astromech
  • Biggs Darklighter + R2 Astromech
  • 2x Rookie Pilot

Went undefeated at Hard Knox Games in KY for the tourney win and a shiny Firespray. Ended up with five. Players, three Rebs and two imperial including myself. I ran the hottie Worlds list with a change of the obsidian to an AP for 99 points and the initiative, which came in handy. Tourney started twelve. And ended at 5:30.

I'm kinda sad that we had so many people at our store (Great Escape Games in Sacramento, CA), because I wanted my brother to win something too, and he probably would have been if we'd had less than 10 show up (he went 2-1, losing only to me). Oh well…I guess it means we have a healthy number of players in this area, so…silver lining! :)

I see a few folks saying they took the Firespray after winning…is that just because you play Imps only, or is it viewed as a better ship or something? I expected that most people would choose the Falcon over the Firespray (unless they are only playing Imps). I mean I'm happy as a clam to get my Firespray, don't get me wrong, but it makes me think I may be missing something…

the Firespray is awesome, and I usually only play Imperial, but to me the main reason was price; ill get a 30 dollar ship for free and wait till February to get me a couple of interceptors.

Had 6 people show for our tournament (3 each side). I ran Vader and Howlrunner, both with Swarm Tactics, 1 Obsidian Squadron TIE and 3 AP's and ended up placing second overall, winning Slave-1.

Overall impressions of the new ships?

1: TIE Interceptor is almost impossible to get away from when it's equiped with the Daredevil upgrade.

2. Millenium Falcon is best fought at range 3.

Shot of the tounament for me was my Academy Pilot making a head-on pass on a shield-less Vader who had a lock on him…and killing him with no damage received in return.

Went 3-0 (only lost two ships all night, Luke in game one and an A-wing during the final)

List:

Luke+R5d8+Marksman/ Wedge+R2D2+Marksman/ Dutch+Ion Cannon+R5K6

Tactic- placed them in formation on my left side of the board toward the edge Dutch toward the side and Wedge following Luke. Moved foward and cut across toward the center of the board once engaments began. This allowed me to cut down the line in Enfilade postion and focus fire combining the locks with marksmanship. Against Rebs it improved masking with astroids, and against imps it lined them up down the chanel through the astroids that I would chose when cutting into the center.

Last game playing the Rebel Falcon List Tactics. Moved A-wings up the side and angled the Falcon into the battle from the center deployment. Lost the first A wing turn two, but managed to take the first Interceptor down the next round. Used the Falcon as a huge "You shall not pass!" Herded the last two ships focusing fire on the last Interceptor taking it out turn 5 or 6. Hit the Firespray with lucky homing missle (hit, hit, crit, crit), one of the crits was the collisions causing auto damage. Again lined Falcon and last A wing up to say "sit" to firespray. In the end the firespray had some deceleration trauma against an astroid.

placed 4th got me a interceptor

played out of my faction, played a rebel list using

Wedge/ R2 astro mech

Dutch/ Ion cannon

rookie pilot x2

I will say this My Dutch gave alot of people fits today, and I have much much respect and love for the Y-wing…I almost Ion cannoned a guy off the table edge

I had a blast, Learned some new tricks and moves and am 100% in love with this game now.

Went in with Luke w/ R2-D2 (he was supposed to have swarm tactics, but I forgot about it so ran the tourney at 98 pts), Gold squad with R2 unit and ion cannon, and 2 rookie pilots.

Got a modified win in my first round against almost the same fleet as mine. He killed my y-wing and I killed his Luke.

I got a major victory against my second opponent who was running Vader w/ swarm tactics, Howler w/ swarm tactics, and the rest academy pilots.

Lost my third match against Biggs w/ R2-F2, grey squadron w/ proton torpedo and a ion cannon, and 2 rookies, came down to the last ship. The loss knocked me from tied for 1rst to 5th, so I didn't get any ships at the end.

I placed 2nd out of 6.

Vader+swarm

tempest

Howlrunner+swarm

Backstabber

Academy

There were 4 IMP squards and 2 rebel. I lost the final match with Slave1 wwhich ended up being my prize.

Started a little after 1PM and finished about 5:15PM. Since I actually played for the first time last night I was happy with the results.

When undefeated (3-0) in the preliminary rounds. 2 full wins, 1 win on time/points.

Luke w/R2-F2

Gold Squad w/Ion Cannon (x3)

I lost in the final and took home a Slave 1, which was what I would have picked had I won anyway. Had a great time and was very happy with my Y-wing heavy build that a lot of folks said would be rubbish.

Tourney went very well. I played at Gamequest in Fort Wayne Indiana. There were 5 of us.

I took:

Garvin + an standard R5

Dutch + R5-D8 + Ion Cannon

and a pair of Rookie Pilots

I'd set up with a named pilot and a rookie together. Each rookie would then be able to shoot with both a target lock and a focus.

We played two rounds then the finals. First round again a Rebel pilot with two X-Wings and two Y-Wings I was able to focus all of my ships on half of hers and was able to pull out a full Match Win.

Second game was against a Imp Pilot. He had Vader, Backstabber and 4 Academy Pilots. He spread them across the board at the start so I focused on one end taking out a few of them early. He killed Dutch but I was able to get him down to a single Academy pilot at the end of the game. I got a Modified Match Win but looking back it should have been a full since I won by more than 33 points. Didn't matter in the end.

So that took us to the finals which were another match between Ed the same Imp Pilot and myself. I had the Rebels and he had the Imps. I was very lucky and was able to get some really strong hits early on Slave 1. He ended up on an asteroid then got stuck up against my A wing that was able to shoot him while he couldnt shoot back. A few turns of that and Slave 1 was toast. Then the Falcon quicky dispatched with the Interceptors.

The 360 arc on the Falcon is just nasty.

So to make a long story short I got to take the Falcon home.

For the people who have already played, what time did the event start and what time did it end? And, how many players showed up? Just trying to get a feel for how log the tournament lasted.

10 people playing. Went from 4PM to 8:30PM for three regular rounds. I was out of the running and had a long trip home so I didn't see how long the it took for the top two players to play the meaningless final game.

I would have taken the Slave I if I'd won. Just wanted it more than the falcon.

We had a great tournament at Lone Star Comics in Fort Worth, Texas. 8 people showed up, and everyone had a blast.

2 total imperial players, as bizarre as that was! I really liked how my 4 ship rebel build did. Wedge, 2 rookie X-wings, and a gold squadron Y-wing, plus upgrades. Didn't see a single tie swarm, which was refreshing, after hearing about it all over the place.

I went 3-0 and took the Falcon home, due to my opponent having to leave before we finished the final game. I haven't had a chance to play it yet, as the final match I had the imperials, and he had the rebels. He was a great opponent, and all my games were fun.

And seeing all the 2nd wave ships, they are amazing in quality. Even the communications array on the Falcon swivels! I can't wait for Feb for the rest.

yeah, if you had just killed that rookie in your final match i might've had a chance to get revenge for your last minute kill on luke in the opening round.

edit: my list was luke with swarm & r2d2, rookie with generic r2, rookie, gold with ion cannon. went 2-1 and finished 4th overall out of 10 on tiebreakers

I feel like the cards from the firespray were soo amazingly awesome

Went 3-0 for the main tourny and then lost int the final showdown, I have to agree that the falcon is a beast.

did a 4 ship rebel build wwith

luke with r2-d2 was wishing it was wedge the whole dday

Rookie pilot

gold with iion

gold with iions penned basically every round going 3 with the ys in front, and usually traded a y for wedge if not better on the first pass

worked pretty good first round went up against wedge Luke and Dutch, ioned wedge onto and asteroid twice that game before I finally got him. After that it was mostly clean up

Second round was againts wedge garven(I think) a rookie xwing and a ywing. Traded wedge for a y wing on the first pass then kept the othe named ioned till my other xwing maneuvered up to point blank from the side and pulled him from the table, after that he got some lucky hits and blew away my x wing and took the ion off of my ywing with a lucky crit before I got his y wing down. Outmonuvered the crap out of him and got both the ywing and Luke to 1 space of him with him turned in the wrong way and that was that.

Last round was against tie stars. Was super slow this round as a bunch of the astroids were on my side. He flys with 5 in a formation and banks around a big rock in the middle as I turn in on him from the side. Dark curse turns to hard into arc of both xwings and a y. I light him up and with some unlucky dice on his side I pull him off the table. My ywing on the other side of the board trades some ion fire with backstabber. Next round I trundle forward and he bumps all over himself because of that I pull mauler mith off the table and he puts some more dmg onto my y which hard turns and starts trying to escape the tie swarm. Next turn things mounuver down the middle and I turn the wrong way with Luke but the works out he does the opposite of what I thought he would do and because of it I close to point blank on a howl runner who hit the ship in front of him I roll fire and pull howl runner off the table. He concedes at this point, I have a y with 1 dmg on it and he has backstabber, an academy pilot and an obsidian squadrin pilot, only backstabber was in a position to do much.

Lessons learned

Double ion gives a lot of control takes a lot of concentrated firepower on the first pass to kill one.

Wedge doesn't like being ioned 3 turns in a row.

luke is no wedge and I'm not really sold on r2-d2 seems to situational.

I wanted a slave one but after taking a beating from the falcon I'll live with it instead:)

well I'm going to another one tomarrow after working a 12 hour shift tonight. I figure I got 50-50 of getting a slave 1 in that one double ion seems really good.

I had two seperate events today at different stores (and one still to go at FFG's Event Center tomorrow) I won both tournaments and now am the proud owner of 2 Slave-1's :-D. My list is Vader (Swarm Tactics), Mauler Mithril, Back Stabber, and 3x Acad Pilots. First Tournament I went 4-0 and the second was smaller and I went 3-0. Publish

Ended up third place and won an A Wing. There were 12 of us. I ran:

Wedge with swarm tactics

Garvin

Rookies X 2

Made a huge mistake in my first game by completely separating the two pairs of ships during set up. This allowed a 6 tie swarm to get to the poor rookies, taking them both out before I could get over there with Wedge and Garvin. These two then wiped out all but 2 ties, but came up a bit short and I lost that match. Great learning experience.

After that, I switched up my starting orientation and play style and then won out.

Wedge was insane with the free focus from Garvin and a target lock. He took out one ship every time he rolled the dice with this combo. He lasted longer than I expected in each game because I usually had initiative and just wiped out one or two threats before they even had a chance to shoot.

I played against all 6 ship Imperial lists. I wish I would have had an opportunity to play against other Rebels just for the experience.

It was a great day and had lots of fun.

"And the quarterback is toast!" Got to take home a Slave I. Today's weather kept our event small to just three of us at my local comic shop in Minneapolis. It was just myself, my good friend who I play together with and another local guy who has won a couple local events. We decided to do a round robin between the three of us to decide who would get what and I beat both of them. I'm a rebel player almost exclusively, but I just had to get me a Slave I!

Anyways, both my buddy and I decided to change up our regular lineups and try something new so it was a bit of a close fight. I decided to run Wedge with swarm tactics, Garven, and 2 Rookie Pilots. It kept me at 99 points so I actually had initiative for once. He was running Vader with Swarm Tactics and concussion missiles, Tempest Squadron Pilot with concussion missles, Black Squadron Pilot, and 2 Academy Pilots. It was a hard fought battle when I lost Garven right off the bat, but was able to come back and pick off ships one at a time. It helps he ran a full health AP off the board. It was difficult, but we had a blast with it.

My other battle was against Dutch, Horton, and Gold Squadron Pilot. All three had ion cannons. Dutch had topedoes and I think R5-D8. Horton had 2 torpedoes and R2-D2. I was able to get into a tight formation and cut through some asteroids and lay down some heavy fire using target locks from everyone. Horton went down on the second salvo, while Dutch was close to eating it as well. Then when I was able to get a Rookie into position, the y-wings ran into the back of him while I was able to position Wedge and the other Rookie within range 1. He called it at that point as he had no actions, and neither of his ships were gonna be living too long with the hurt that was coming. I was a bit worried at first since I had never run against any squad like that, but it was a lot of fun and we both got the ships that we wanted. And we agreed that my buddy got to take 2 of the small ships and the shop was fine with him taking both Interceptors.

I really wish we had more people show, but it was still interesting playing against squadrons and tactics that were all new to me. However, tomorrows Kessel Run at FFG's Event Center is gonna be absolutely packed. I'm really looking forward to it!

Massive thanks to everyone at FFG for organizing an awesome event like this for us fans, and to all the shops that are putting it on!

Q: how did Garven pass the free focus to Wedge?

Wedge has his combat round befor Garven, so Garven would not be able to use his focus (and thus pass it to Wedge) until after Wedge had shot…

He would've used Wedge's swarm tactics to turn Garven into an pilot skill 9. Then he would've had Garven shoot first hoping to use a focus to then pass it onto Wedge.

Our stor did things a litte differently, There were only six slots so we started the tournament with a drawing and every one got to play with a wave 2 ship. The force was with my and I drew the falcon. So my list was Han Solo, with Luke Skywalker and Chewbaka as crew upgrades. I also had an escort of 2 rookie pilots in x-wings.

It was sooooo much fun. The Falcon is Amazing. It only has one agility dice and so it took some hits just about every time it was fired on, but with 5 shields and 8 hull it takes 13 hits to take it down. With chewbaka you need 15. It was a beast. The 360 fireing arc with 3 attack dice is really nice, add Han Solo's ability, Target Lock and Luke Skywalker all together and it one-shotted TIEs on two occasions.

I went 3 and 0. One modified vicotry due to time and 2 complete victories.

We had 9 players in our event at The Augusta Book Exchange in Augusta, GA.

5 Rebel and 4 Imperial.

I ran the following:

Garven

Dutch w/ Ion Cannon

2x Red Squadron Pilots

I ended up going 3-0 in the initial rounds with all Complete victories. I had the Falcon in the finals round, and due to being unfamiliar with some of the new abilities (I can't believe I forgot the Title gave me EVADE the whole freakin time) I lost. Though it was a super close final, as we traded ship for ship. The final showdown came down to my A-Wing vs. his Intercepter, but he had the pilot who gains focus when stressed AND had a Stealth Field . . . . . didn't end well for me as could never crack that field. Super tense, but very fun final match.

I walked away with the Slave 1. Ships look awesome, and these add-ons are going to add so much variety to the game it's gonna be awesome.

Our organizer (I give HUGE props to) not only had the Kessel Run kit, but threw in an extra starter for last place, extra ships, extra dice sets, and Battlefoam trays all as prize options so every in the event walked away with something awesome.

Total blast.

Tried out the game at a demo last week. Broke down and spent way too much money on the game - but I've been waiting for a sci-fi combat game just like this for a long time.

So I bumbled through the rules in a 65 point game Friday night against my 10-year old son. We built a team for the Kessel Run and off I went Saturday afternoon.

Boy did we have some rules wrong!

Since the venue started carrying the game relatively recently and since they just demo'd it last week they allowed mixing of factions for those of us nowhere near 100 points of single faction ships (like me!).

I ran a father and son team of:
Darth Vader w/ missles and Squad Leader

Mauler Mithel

Dark Curse

Luke Skywalker + R2-D2

12 players were there (I was thinking maybe 4 would show).

First game I spent digging for stuff non-stop. Had lots of questions. Kinda sucked. But my opponent had played exactly 1 game, too - so we were evenly matched. So much so we finished with a tie. 0 ships destroyed. Both at 100 points for build.

Second round faced a played who was 1-0 but had just bought the game. When I am answering questions you know its a bad sign. Thankfully the battle next door was there to help out! And ships got blown up this time!!! I lost Dark Curse but destroyed the opposing Dark Curse and Wedge Antilles getting me a "modified" win. I never heard of such a thing.

On to round 3 vs a 2-0 pure Rebellion team of 3 X-wings and 1 Y-Wing. He banked left, I flew straight and got some early blasts in. He crashed through asteroids, setting me up for Vader to finish off Wedge. Vader got blasted into dust soon afterwards. Mauler mauled one of the X-wings but then Mauler himself was eliminated. Good maneuvering on my part got my Luke and Dark Curse behind the remaining Y and X-Wing and a critical hit on the Y got rid of its Ion Cannon. Both were blasted soon afterwards.

Not a bad showing getting 1 complete win, a modified win and a tie which got me third place! Guy I beat had 2 complete wins which earned him second place and he fought in the finals. I took home an A-Wing for my son.
