New Take on 3-Ship Rebel

By ScottieATF, in X-Wing

So I've played most of my game using 3 ship builds to alot of sucesses. I had settled on the common Wedge, Biggs, Dutch.

But I was working around with eliminating Biggs from the trio due to his lack off effective offensive input and came up with this

Wedge: -R2F2, Swarm Tactics, Proton 38pts

Garven: -Proton 30pts

Dutch: -Ion, Proton 32pts

R2F2 helps with Wedge's fire upon me syndrome but both Red and Gold Leader replace his action and then some.

Now my intial thought is perhaps to sub out Garven's Proton for R2D2, providing him a measure of defense as well.

With the overlapping actions I can pull of two Lock-Focus shots a turn (with both X-wings) or leave Garven's focus on Wedge if he stand to eat a few shots.

With the three torpedoes I can bring down 1 1/2 TiEs, an X-wing (usaully with one to spare), or a defense up Biggs

Opinions?

I'm for changing Garven's torps to R2D2, it's a great idea. torps arent too good, and generally 2 torps on a TIE or Xwing should be enough to take it down. 3 is a bit of a waste of points I feel, and you may not have the opportunity to fire all 3 at times. Plus, you are running a 3 shp build, so you will really need R2D2 to help give you some much needed lasting power

I agree, adding R2 will make Garven survivable and the loss of one torp isn't going to hurt.

I think I'm missing something here. If Wedge is using his action for R2F2 how are you doing Lock/Focus shots with both X-Wings? I think Garven would be getting a focus token for his action then during combat he'd use it and pass it over to Wedge for that part of it, but I don't see how the both get a Target Lock since wouldn't Dutch only be able to give one to one of them?

I literally just came up with a similar list, with an R2-D2 in place of a Torpedo. I still need to test it however. It is a support Wedge to the utmost list, but I am not sure if the free Focus from Garven is better or worse than a Biggs with R2-F2 for keeping Wedge alive.

I used a similar list today vs a mirror list and then a six-TIE Swarm. Though I swapped Dutch for Luke with R2D2, Garven had a standard R2 and everyone had Marksman instead of Torpedoes.

For my first few games of X-Wing, I think I did really well. Although Wedge was eventually killed in the second game, being able to use Marksman against the higher-rated pilots, he could then use Garven's focus to evade by the time the lower-rated pilots got to shoot at him.

Maybe consider giving Dutch R5-D8 to discard damage and turn him into a literal flying tank?
