Interest in a Mid-January event in Chicagoland Area

By Tywin2, in 3. AGoT Organized Play

I recently talked to Games-Plus about doing a regular LCG Game Day. As far as regular days go, Sunday seems to be the best day, at least with my group. Saturdays could work for specific events/days, but often there are other events that would bump any regular group. Certainly it would be harder to have enough room for more than 6 people on most Saturdays.

They seemed open to the idea of doing the organized play kits, but I have not heard back a definitive ya or nay.

If you're interested in AGoT and other LCG/Boardgames I'd recommend joining:

We have been doing monthly gaming at GP and other locations.

I'm just trying to get into the game. From what I've read so far, Games Plus seems to have gotten a lot better to the non-paint-your-minis-gamer. I've avoided that place like the plague because of the rude behavior management has had in the past to the card gamers & the pre-painted minis gamers. I wonder what changed their attitude?

Well I've never had a problem there. We did host a Game of Thrones Regional at Games Plus last year. We'll see if they actually get the organized play kits or not.

I think in general they're a very miniatures focused store, so I could see them trumping card games for miniatures. Also CCGs, especially Magic, tend to draw a less than mature crowd, so that never helps.

My guess as to why they may be more receptive is that the LCG monthly packs seem to be selling well. I know that the GoT and Netrunner packs usually sell out. That's part of the reason I want to start doing regular events is to try and get some more players into the game group.

Can we have a date confirmation yet? Are we looking at the 16th?

I have a table for this Sunday, Jan 20th at Games Plus in Mount Prospect, IL. It will probably mostly Game of Thrones and Star Wars. If theres interest this will become a weekly or bi monthly day.

I am going to plan on stopping by Sunday as long as the weekend runs as planned. Do you have a time set?

I'll be there from 1-5.

With the 49er's game this weekend I won't be able to make it. I'll try to show up next time.

Yeah, that is a great point…if you made it a little earlier I could probably make it for a few games, but I may still try and make it for one as I think the game starts at 2 PM.

How early would you like to start? I could be there around 12. The store opens at 10 if really want to get started early.

Noon will be solid.

See you on Sunday.

Hi Tywin,

Thanks for coming out. You mentioned that the weekend of Feburary 15th would be a good weekend for a tournament. RIght now we have a table for Feb. 17th, of that day works. If that day works, I will check with Games Plus if they think they will have the game kit by then, if not we chould still do a mini tournament if the Peoria guys are interested.

Sounds great, lets see what everyone says; I would definitely be in though. I had a good time Sunday, when is the next time you guys are planning on meeting up there for just games of Star Wars/AGOT? Not until the 17th?

Just let me know so I can book a hotel for crash space.

Haven't heard anything…is it just not happening anytime soon?

What is the word from Games Plus, Tofubones? Are they going to have the kit for 2/17? Do you have a time/format in mind? I would like to make sure my whole group can make arrangements to be there too!

Looking forward to it… Don't leave home without my XWing kit either, just for lulz.

I can make this February date for aGOT. Also, I'll bring my SW LCG decks and my x-wing minis.

If you are really interested in X-wing, Fair Game in Downers Grove has been running a Tuesday league- there are two weeks left (4 weeks per league) and it has been doing farily well so I think another league is coming- give him a call, ask for Eric. They are also starting SW LCG tournies once per month as well as open gaming on the weekends, first tourney would be the week after this aGOT event at Games Plus.

I'd be willing to take an IOU on any game night kit materials if we could just confirm the date?

At this point I think it will just be a regular LCG game day.

Oh man, what happened to the tournament?

Honestly I've been pretty busy with non gaming things and have not been playing attention to this thread. It looks like there might be a number of people interested. So if people are interested in an informal tournament ie probably no prize support, only 4 or 5 hours of gaming ie maybe 3 rounds of Swiss and a final champion game I could probably swing that.

I'm in, Twyin will also be there
