Daisy Walker, Goddess of War

By Solan, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Anyone who knows Arkham and looks at Daisy's character sheet can see that she is sickeningly good. But it is one thing to know that intellectually, and another thing to have just how good she is demonstrated to you.

We just finished a game against Shub-Niggurath. Duwich was very active that game, with a gate opening in Gardener's place early on, at Wizard's Hill much later, and all three of the "two monsters appear in a Dunwich street" cards coming up. Attempts to close the Gardener's Place gate repeatedly failed, climaxing in Darrell Simmons being Devoured by Ithaqua. It fell to Daisy to sweep the streets of Dunwich and prevent the Horror from awakening.

Now Daisy was well-equipped. She had the Voice of Ra and Alchemical Process, both of which she used virtually every turn. She also had Shrivelling, the Golden Sword, a Revolver for half the game, the Pallid Mask, Implant Suggestion and Foresee. By the end of the game she had killed thirty-seven toughness in monster trophies: Two Cultists, two Zombies, two Ghouls, two Skeletons, a Ghost, a Rat-Thing, a Tcho-Tcho, a Nightgaunt, an Elder Thing, a Witch and the Star Vampire. At least eleven of these monsters were killed in Dunwich. Daisy also sealed three gates, one through perhaps the most powerful Arkham location encounters from Kingsport (which incidentally also spared us the Terrible Experiment and the Disturbing the Dead Rumors coming up near the begining of the game). And in all this time she never once went insane, unconscious, or got lost in time and space.

Is this at all unusual, or have the rest of you had equally extreme experiences with Daisy?

Daisy is probably the best. I use her with Summon Shantak. I rarely play her any more though because she's so good, there's not much challenge. She can easily seal 3 gates in a four player game. Only Wendy challenges her for the top spot. Mandy's third.

It was interesting to hear about here combat exploits though. I've never used her that way.

I love Daisy. Even more being a Librarian in training :') she appeals to my innate narcissism. Nevertheless I can't just say that she's the "best." Because the fact is, if you're in a fast game her ability may not come in handy as much as Mandy's rerolls... Or Wendy's super fast sealing. That being said ;'D she's pretty **** good (especially if you search for alchemy first— which I always do)! And for the record, I've had games where calling her a Goddess of War would be an understatement. You think she was nice in your game? Try getting her a motorcycle and The Necronomicon. Then you will see why even the Ancient Ones tremble at the sound of "Dewey Decimal" ;'D She could probably take out Kratos. Heh... Have you ever played her in a game where she has *all* the voices of Ra in the deck? :'D I have. Let the slaughter commence!

::Sigh:: I only play her when I draw her randomly though (as I do with all characters), but I'm always very excited when I draw her :') I enjoy giving the AOs excruciating deaths.

She's a juggernaut. My only solo game success to date was won with Daisy, and with ridiculous ease at that. I remember the Illuminated Manuscript being probably the most useful item in her bag - no need to even go anywhere to clue up! Such is her power, we have instituted a ban on gaining Alchemical Process, Find Gate and especially Arcane Insight via the Livre d'Ivon. I sometimes think it'd be fun to have Daisy be the bad guy in one game instead of an AO; she's a more than tough enough replacement.

Well, I think my position on her should be known to our regular viewers. Also, because Avi likes her, I couldn't say I like her even if I did gui%C3%B1o.gif . Anyhoo, why does her being a Librarian help in any shape or form her reading books? Librarian is able to find books, not read them saner. For me her abilities should read:

#1: Whenever Daisy is shopping (or allowed to draw from an Item deck) and draws a Tome, she draws cards until another Tome is drawn, discarding any non-Tomes drawn. She can then choose from the available cards. (so in essence, when shopping, she can choose from 4 Items; also, go ahead, play her against Y'Golonac with that wording partido_risa.gif )

#2: All spells that have a Sanity cost of 2 or more, have their cost reduced by 1.

If the "read Tomes for free" point was out there (especially compared to Harvey), then the reduced spell cost is just bizarre beyond description. I mean, what the F enfadado.gif ???

Why would you make a ban on that? Just make it so you can only draw her randomly. (Unless you only play large number of player games in which case I suppose a ban would be reasonable).

As soon as I saw Dam's name in the most recent posts, I knew there would be trouble ::draws Dam whacking stick::

Whack! Whack! Whack!

:Laughter:: don't you *dare* make a joke about that!

::Shrug:: there are certain advantages to using Harvey over Daisy. Cards that require sanity loss as opposed to costs. But yeah, basically he sucks in comparison.

As for Librarians finding books. What, you think we only *find* books? Who do you think picks the books for libraries? ;') And believe it or not, some of us actually also read quite a few books too. As for our remarkable sanity ;') we work with the public, naturally we have a high resistance to insanity and horror. The Necronomicon is nothing compared to public service :')

Yes, I'm sure you'll make a fine addition to those ranks gui%C3%B1o.gif . Of course, if you're the measuring stick, Sanity seems lacking lengua.gif .

I had Daisy with the Lore skill. I gave her Arcane Insight for the first time. Boy, did she still have severe trouble passing the Spell check to cast it.

Insults? :'D Shall we feed you to the flesh eating books? (We keep those in the back).

You need to not use every spell tome you pick up if you're planning on possibly getting arcane insight. Keep two or three just sitting around (which shouldn't be a problem if you're having her browse the unique item shop for the best items and the Necronicon). Also, having a few Voices of Ra won't hurt ;')

We don't have a ban on Daisy being drawn (though we do have a veto if we're against an easy AO or playing with less than 4 investigators or no board expansions), just a gentlemanly agreement that the Livre d'Ivon she starts with cannot be used to acquire certain very useful spells.

These **** boards. I replied in the quote?!

I don't like her because of the picture. In fact in our group we call here horse face.

You have weird taste in women. Didn't you think the victorian lady with the spaghetti bulging out of her face was hot?

No! I say horses are hotter than spaghetti!

I had Daisy in a 6-player game against Y'golonac yesterday. Because of Ygo's special ability, she didn't get any tomes besides the Livre d'Ivon (which was promptly used for a Find Gate spell) but that didn't matter. She drew Summon Shantak and a Lamp of Alharazed (sp?) in her random starting equipment, which made her both a decent monster slayer and an insane gate closer. By the end of the game she had five gate trophies, and we won by closing the last gate. The only caveat during the game was that a large number of monster surges drove the terror level up to 10. Luckily the Feds raided Arkham before the monsters got too out of hand.
