Standoff and casting energize

By Msrushing, in Talisman Rules Questions

Can the spell Energize(cast on your self at any time. Your strength value is doubled until the end of your turn) be cast after a stand off has been rolled??
I say no because a stand off causes the end of the turn and the spell has no wording that it can be used to prevent a loss of life or a stand off.
My group for some reason went insane and thinks you can still cast it and say the fight was a win. They think that since it can be cast at any time, they can cast it at a standoff to add str to win the battle.

2. Cast Spells

Any Spells that the player wishes to cast must be cast before the attack roll is made. Any effects or abilities that affect a character’s Strength or Craft must be implemented before the attack roll is made.

Taken directly from the rulebook. This should shut them up lol

I agree that this rule clears up the matter in question.

once the roll is done combat it decided, end of story, engerise with still double the strenght, but combat is now over and has no bearing on the result

Please note that this is from the rulebook under Resolving Battles vs. Creatures. I'm not sure this applies to combat vs Characters, but some rule master can problably clear this up.
