Hi,
In our BC campaign yesterday we ended up using the Ritual of Sundering to deal with some Arbites troops. Our campaign takes place on Malfi.
As a convoy of some thousands of Arbites troops and their rhino transports moved through a choke-point in the scav-zone, on their way to assault some of our allies, a daring group of insurgents detonated a strategic bridge, bringing their advance to a halt. At this moment The Trusted (our warband), positioned on a building overlooking the kill-zone unleashed the Ritual of Sundering, which weakened the boundary between reality and the warp for 25 hours in a kilometer wide area.
Apart from everyone in the area being subject to mutation, death and general nastiness, psychic phenomena runs rampant. Most of these phenomena are relatively "harmless", but some 25% are more serious. Explosions, rains of blood, general wailing and gnashing of teeth. Some 20% of the more nasty stuff is pretty nasty indeed. Demonic incursion nasty.
Spread over the 25 hour period, the following happens:
- 900 Khornate Bloodletters pop into existence, slaughter everyone in sight for a minute or so and disappear again
- 337 Cases of mass possession, where lesser demons of Tzeentch possess the unwashed masses, commit unspeakable acts of plotting and leave
- 33 Cases of total annihilation, where some luckless peasant is reduced to his constituent particles, being replaced by a lesser demon of Tzeentch, permanently
and last, but not least… my favorite
- 900 Greater Daemons of Tzeentch, Lords of Change, pretty much permanently possess anyone happening to wander by. The plotting and scheming will be over the charts.
These numbers might be off a bit, but they are based on the fact, that within the are of the ritual there is a psychic phenomena every round, so that's 30 per minute, 1800 per hour etc. 25% of these cause a roll on the Perils of the Warp -table.
Anyway, even without rolling for the phenomena, using this ritual in, let's say a modestly populated habstack of a hive will have a few million imperials mutating, dying and otherwise having a bad day.
I guess GMs should pretty much either house-rule to ritual to something a bit more tolerable, or decide that the ritual can only be found on page 5 of the Emperor's diary.
Also, as a happier note my character created a daemon weapon, inhabited by the Lord of Change Dalloeg´geotde - bound 16 times. Mastery of Forbidden Lore: Daemonology is so nice.
