Asteroid placement question

By HuwBacca, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Just a quickie regarding asteroid placement. I don't have a rulebook to hand at the mo so I need some help. How are asteroids placed? I remember from the last time I saw the rules the imp places first, then rebel until all are placed, then reb picks a side and imp gets the other side. What distance are asteroids placed from the edges? And what distance are asteroids placed from each other?

Any help, much appreciated.

"Starting with the Imperial player, each player takes
a turn placing one obstacle inside the play area.
Obstacles cannot be placed within Range 1–2 of
any edge of the play area. After placing all of the
obstacles, the Rebel player chooses which edge of
the play area is his. The Imperial player’s edge is on
the opposite side of the play area."

Cheers for that.

The only point left out which is the one I'm not clear on is………Is there a minimum distance needed between asteroid tokens?

Nope, those are all the obstacle placement rules, copied right from the rulebook.

Okay, so you could in effect have a cluster of asteroids to one side/corner of the play area? as long as they are not within range 1-2 of the the edge?

Sure.

Thanks for answering my questions and giving your input, much appreciated! :-)

There is no minimum distance requirement between asteroids unless you are playing by tournament rules, which states:

"An asteroid token cannot be placed within Range 1–2 of any edge of the play area or within Range 1 of another asteroid token."

Note also that in tournament rules, players are assigned an edge before asteroids are placed.

We place astroids witin range one of any board edge and range one of any other astroid on the table, but we also found that to many astroids can make for a quick deadly game, but still very cool.

Can someone clarify what "within range 1-2" means? Do all asteroids have to be placed at range three or further from an edge?

That's exactly what that means.
