Apprentice

By player2202059, in UFS General Discussion

Ok, well back in the day I used to use apprentice to make my decks, and to practice play, both solo and with my friends. This program is very versatile, and I beleive could be easily re-furbished to be used for UFS....

You can edit or add your own cards into it.... you can do a lot with it... and even tho it was originally made for magic, you SHOULD be able to use it with ufs...

Can some people with more experience/time/energy/experience check it out and see if you can get it to work?

Here is MSE (magic set editor) a program you can use to make the card sets to use for apprentice

downloads.sourceforge.net/magicseteditor/mse2-2009-01-15.exe

if you do it without permission its copyright enfringment I think and FFG doesnt want there to be an online client as I remember, cause I suggested this a while back and got yelled at.

I believe the idea is if people play online the wont have to go to the stores and the whole idea is the game supports the brick and mortar stores

Well, unfortunately.... or fortunately for whoever...

I found templates for UFS already made, on the MSE site... and you can export them into apprentice.

AND no... people aren't going to stop playing UFS in the store, or buying cards... because apprentice is really not that good of a program... its only useful to playtest your stuff by yourself or possibly get a game or two from someone you know...

I can't imagine that they would be upset by this... twoheadeddragon gives our free high res scans of all the cards, which you can print and use to play if you were so inclined.... but who wants to do that?

At one point in time we had a team working on converting UFS.

We were politely asked to stop. That was back when it was under STG.

I'll poke the FFG powers that be and see if they still feel the same.

I never understood why STG thought an online client would take away from brick and mortor stores. The biggest part about the ufs experience is the players and that has been said time and time again. No other ccg has the type of player base that we do.

On the topic of using apprentice, I personally would love to see it cause I can only play ufs like once a month at a store due to financial and family issues. Besides it would allow those people who are stranded without a player base the ability to play agianst people across the world.

i would just use it to playtest my decks against the metas that i dont get around home and probably wouldnt even use cards i didnt have or didnt think i could get sometime soon.

i would definitely still buy cards becuase playing the game in person is still as epic as anything besides look at yu-gi-oh they have a million videogames and still have sets coming out and tourneys all the time at least i assume they are still going good

Ok, well lets get it going... I want it, and I want it soon.

HSE has templates.... we have the info from twoheadeddragon... who has the time to make this happen? Cause i sure don't.... but I'd be glad to help out as much as I am able to test it etc...

What I would love to see, is FFG get behind this idea and find a way to make it work for their interest as well as ours.... whether it be an ad supported apprentice-like-program or something else....

There area lot of ways for this to work... but its hard to do it all from scratch...

Uh... yeah... so... like I said I had a dedicated team working on it. This was prior to Set 4. It took a couple of months to get apprentice upto speed, and then we were told to nuke the project. That was with dedicated volunteers working on it, who had been doing the RD patches.

IF I can get the approval... your guess is as good as mine as to how long it's going to take us to find someone who's willing to do all the data entry.

The good news is that once we get that person, we've at least got the location to host it.

I've got a guy working on doing data entry.

We got a copy from THD of their database...

We have the HSE program etc...

But one man alone cannot do this, so I'm glad to see others out there who are willing/able or otherwise interested in working on this.
