Overall World Champion

By Kidlet, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Just gonna give props to Butzlaff for making it to the final table in the Melee tournament and then proceeding to do the same in the Joust tourney as well. Barring a controversial call, he would have hands down been the overall world champ.

Can clearly not take anything away from Derek here, he gets another prop for top 8ing both events.

Another prop to John Bruno for crushing 3 of the DC meta on his way to winning.

That is all.

Yeah John Bruno just made Erick the Jim Kelly of AGoT Joust. :)

On a side note, Overall Champ is a complete joke.

That is all.

Overall Champion is definitely the most important prize. It shows that you can play all aspects of the game well. It takes a well rounded, talented individual to be able to consistently place in the top of both tournaments--both of which require completely different skillsets.

Saying it is a 'complete joke' shows that you have no real understanding of how the game is designed or played.

Erick made some huge booboos in that final game. Very disappointing. Of course, John got lucky top-decking the cards he needed. But he played very well.

FFG seems to think that Overall is worth having, especially since they have gone through such excruciating backbends to make melee legitimate. So it's not really a joke, but it should probably be done away with.

i understand what FFG and some of the player base "thinks" overall champion stands for. I just happen to disagree with calling someone a champion when they don't actually have to win the Melee or Joust title. I understand the concept, I simply think it's flawed in it's execution.

^^ Agreed.

However if they were to give precedence to someone who won either melee or joust, it gets sticky because then which would get preference if two players were in similar standings and one happened to win melee and one won joust? I guess the chances of that are rare, but theoretically possible.

Maybe there should be a day 3 of the tournament--

Where they take the top 16 overall people (from combined melee and joust points), then set up 4 melee games, cut to the top 4 where they play joust to decide the overall world champion. Then you would actually have to win to be World Champion.

In which case I probably would have taken it =p
