Coseflame adventure available (finally!)

By aethel, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

This was the adventure that got away from me. It just grew and grew as I was working on it. And then when I was trying to polish it up to put on the web, the Scenario Contest came out and distracted me.

But Stone and Water , a scenario set on Coseflame, is finally cleaned up. Big thanks to Doc III and Wu Ming /Cypher for collaborating on some of the Coseflame planetary stuff.

At the core, Stone and Water is really just a big daemon hunt with lots of sparkly window dressing. I took the opportunity to kill two birds with one bolt shell and wrap up Tsyiak's presence in my game while incorporating a lot of story telling ideas I'd wanted to try. The Scenario should run just fine if you want to substitute something else for Tsyiak.

Per everyone's feedback, I have switched to PDF as the primary document format. I know there was at least one request to keep uploading the Excel version, but since I'm doing the final edits in the text version now, I'm afraid the Excel versions are no longer being sufficiently cleaned up. Apologies.

Anyway, so while the underlying story is not overly original, I hope you enjoy. Please let me know if anyone has trouble with the files. And as always, if you don't like the content... remember what you paid for it.

Thanks for the scenario, I think it is very well done. I have been thinking about how to get some closure of the Tysiak storyline myself, and this scenario will be great inspiration.

(A slight editorial glitch seem to have occured in the statblock appendix. The stats and text of the Elsbeth profile has been posted under the harvus, the bodyguard and the martina profiles)

And this is why having other eyes on your work is good! It looks like I missed copy and pasting the info in from Excel.

I've corrected the problem in all the files.

Thanks Rosenthal.

Nice, will read it today after I'm more fully awake.

Thanks for the fixes.
I particularly liked the way the player characters has been integrated into the scenario as that help immersing the players in the world. I find that to lead to more rewarding experiences than "we are the pawns that solves standard inquisitorial mission #4".

I am also very fond of all the unique content contained within the scenario; the setting, and the inventive manifestations of tysiak. Great ideas, guess I will steal them even if I don't get around to running the scenario itself.

I am currently bringing the "Serrated Query" to life for my players, because i felt that "the Serrated Query" (and that storyline) needed more attention after we did "Purge the Unclean". But after "House of Dust and Ash", Tysiak might get more stage time.

I guess I meant to say that, I think it is great that you have posted your ideas about a fitting a follow-up and conclusion to the story-arch from Illumination. At present all the published scenarios (from BI/FFG) are semi- open-ended, so as a GM, I really appreciate the ideas about how to conclude some of these storylines. It serves as great inspiration for my own campaigns. I hope we will see more of that here.

Might I suggest that you add "daemonic presence" to the daemonic entities within the scenario, as that is one of the tell tale signs of a daemon that has infested the "real world". (not to mention that tysiak had a daemonic presence in his incarnation in Illumination).

Thanks for the making GM' ing a bit easier.

Thanks for the kind words.

I run things in a similar fashion. I find it quite disruptive to have this big recurring threat, and then as soon as you are done with the prewritten scenario it just fades away. The very first adventure I ran (Sin, also on my site) actually had an allusion to the Serrated Query, because I thought I would integrate them into the campaign. But by the time I actually got to Rejoice , I had changed my mind. So instead I removed the SQ entirely and have the Rising Silence (a group in my campaign) behind it.

That's a good point. I will probably do so when I get a chance.

Another excellent adventure. Sin and Salvation was a big inspiration to me for my campaign Wiki and I'm planning on running Sin as part of the trio of initial Scintilla missions before the team get sent off-world for (an adapted) illumination then on towards Purge the Unclean and other missions (as I get time to write them and weave them into my overall thematic arcs for the campaign).

I'd love to read more on your long-term arcs and story ideas for your campaign as it's evident you're laying groundwork in your campaign for the acolytes becoming more aware of factional in-fighting in the Inquisition and radicalism, albeit I understand if you can't post about longer-term plans because of your group reading these forums.

One quick note after my initial perusal and not that it in any way detracts from the excellent mission but in the sample gear pdf you mention a custom gun for 'Nethru' but don't detail what it is or give stats for it unlike all the other gear you loaded your players out with. As I said, howevet, not a criticism or needed for the mission in any way.

PS I'm similarly running DH online albeit because one of my players is a mature student stuck behind a particularly obnoxious university firewall we're having to use skype. Ohh the joy that would be Ventrilo (and being able to play music/atmospheric sounds through it while running) for the campaign.

Oh! Thank you for pointing that out!

No actually, that wasn't a gun for Nethru. It was a previous draft of Balas's gun. It looks like it was in Nethru's section because I stored the text at the bottom of the document in case I changed my mind later. I didn't realize it made it onto the web. I should take it out.

And thanks very much for the kind words about the site. We tried using Skype for a single week (also due to university firewalls, actually) but it kept dropping and we swore never again!

Yes, I recruited most of my players in the forums, so obviously revealing things to come here is a no-no. (Especially since I may need to recruit one more soon.. llorando.gif ) But if you would ever like to chat about things offline, my email is on my website. Feel free to drop me a line.
