Ship Moving Question

By hendersondayton, in X-Wing

Ships "Activate" in order of pilot skill (lowest to highest). I also understand the overlap rule. However, I have a situation I need help with.

(I posted a pic on a personal website I own for lack of a better place to put it)

Mithel's 1 Turn would result in an overlap. Following the rules, I have to move backwards down the move template until we are not touching. Using the picture I linked, that would result in mithel back where he started. In affect, not moving this round.

In theory, Skywalker wouldn't actually be there…this is why i don't get the rule. Technically they are moving simultaneously. As Skywalker moves away, Mithel is turning Left.

For those who have played Wings of War, this is how that game played. Everyone moved at once.

So, I assume that Mithel doesn't get to move, but just chooses an action?

As Mithel is 7 skill, he would indeed not get to move.

Mithel moves first. In so doing he stays exactly where he is. It is unfortunate, but part of the rule structure.

One cool thing you could do is to do a 2 speed 90 degree turn to the left and then use your barrel roll ability to roll into or out of a firing arc. I have been using the barrel roll more recently and have enjoyed what it affords the Tie Fighter in combat.

P.S. - great diagram!

Page 17, Overlap rules:

1. From the opposite end of the template, move
the active ship backward along the top of the
template until it no longer overlaps another ship.
While moving the ship, adjust it so that the
template remains centered between both sets of
guides on the ship’s base. Place the ship so that
the bases of both ships are touching.

So even if Mithel does not actually move at all (and I concur that based on the diagram there would be no movement), overlap did occur and at the end the two ships would be touching, at least until the X-wing moves later in the turn. And let's not forget the second part of the overlap rule:

2. Skip this ship’s “Perform Action” step.

So not only does he not get to move, he does not get an action phase. Of course he may later receive a free action from another pilot if available.

I reserve the right to be mistaken.

from how I read it the clue is in the answer, if you move backward along the top of the template it should take you to inbetween the side nub and the corner of X-wing base

1. From the opposite end of the template, move
the active ship backward along the top of the
template

As movement order is a known factor, Mauler's player is penalized for choosing a maneuver they know he will not be able to execute by forfeiting not only the movement but the action as well.

I didn't think about the loss of action here. That really did cripple him. Fun game anyway!
