multiple versions of unique card

By Sealtyk, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Lets say I have two opponents who both want to use the Starks. Early in the game 1 of them plays Robb Stark, and 5 turns later the other one tries to play anothern version on Robb. I made the comment that I didnt think that was legal and was challenged to find it in the rule book. After reading the part about multiple versions I was just as muddy on the subject. I feel that in a game where dead uniqe characters are DEAD, wouldn't allow two of the same uniqe cards to be in play at the same time. I just couldn't find the ruling in a reasonable time frame. Someone please clarify and if possible explain where it is in the rule book so I can find it again if needed. Unless I'm wrond of course.

Unless Im wrong of course. lol sorry

Because there is nothing in the rules that prevents two different players from controlling a particular unique character at the same time - provided that the same player does not own both - two people playing the House Stark can, indeed, both have their own Robb in play at the same time.

The rules on unique cards are all written from the point of view of what a player can/cannot do. So they are applied to players individually, not "globally." They would need to specifically say "you cannot play or put into play a copy of a unique card that an opponent already has is play" in order for the rules to do what you are suggesting.

Thanks, lol. That was the determination we came to after I read thru the rule book last nite. It makes sense the way you put it.
