RTL: Threat in Encounters and "Draw until" markets.

By Terhial, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I've just started a game of RTL with a couple of friends and while I found a lot of things already dealt with here and at BGG, I've encountered two things that were a little sticky.

In an encounter, when a hero dies or flees the encounter, does the OL then receive one less threat per round? The rules said “1 Threat per Hero”. We ruled not.

Second, how do markets like Nerekhall's work? If you draw seven cards getting to the rune, do all seven stay in the market? Do the heroes pick which three cards they want to have access to? Do the cards pulled before the rune automatically go to the bottom of the deck and you draw two more cards after the run?

I see no reason for them to say "1 per hero" unless they specifically mean that the number can fluctuate. And in RtL, it can't, unless you are counting deaths.

Based on the wording for outdoor encounters, if there are only two heroes on the board, then you get two threat per round barring any special abilities.

You draw until you get a rune, then draw the remaining market cards as normal. The ones you drew go back into the deck after you draw the remaining cards.

I disagree with the others on the threat thing.
One per hero is nothing more or less than the standard wording.
In RtL there are always 4 heroes, regardless of how many have died, gone to town, or whatever. The rule does not specify presence, just being. IMO, the Rules indicate the OL always draws 4 threat per turn, + bonuses (eg Sorcerer King).

For markets, what Big Remy said.

While that may have been the intent, the wording is substantially different than other things like chest loot, encounter loot, etc where they specify "roll 4 dice", not one for each hero. Unless the difference in the wording is erratta'd or faq'd, I think the difference is pretty clear.

Sure, the wording is different. But what does the wording say? One threat for each hero. Not one threat for each present hero, or one threat for each on-board hero.

RtL pg 14 (Encounters)
The overlord receives one threat per hero per turn
RtL pg 17 (Dungeon Levels)
He also gains threat at the usual rate. (Which from DJitD pg 9 The overlord player collects one threat token for every hero,)

A hero is a hero is a hero. Dead, fled, in town, whatever, he/she is still a hero.

You can read all you like into the difference in wording, but it still says the same thing.

I'm just posting to second this argument.

I am posting to third this argument.

Also what would be the point of punishing the OL for killing heroes ?! it's absurd...instead of making it easier to outnumber the remaining survivors, your actually giving them a hand. Tanks will most likely be the last ones to survive the fight and that will leave you with 1 treath per trun...

I'm wrong evidently :-) That's why I love the forums.
