Frederick, MD Players?

By GeekZap, in X-Wing Organized Play

Ron (jetsetter) and I have been playing at Beyond Comics and we're trying to get something going for Friday nights. The last two times he and I have played, we started at 6p on a Friday. Would that work for you? Sundays are out for me because I play other games (V:tes or Netrunner) on Sundays. I'm will not be able to play the next two Sundays (11/22 and 11/29) but perhaps Ron can?

thnx,
Christoph

Thanks for the quick response.

Unfortunately, Friday nights are out for me (as are Thursday and Saturday nights). I stopped by Beyond Comics today and they planned to have something for X-wing on Sunday, December 8 at 1:00 pm. I'll be there for that one and wanted to let you know too in case you can be there for it.

The 24th is OP month 3 for Attack Wing at Beyond Comics...I'll be participating in that one!

We have a huge monthly tournament for Xwing at Game Parlor in Chantilly, VA on the 23rd!

Haven't looked into Attack Wing. I'm always up for trying out new games (but I'll probably only be sticking to X-wing and Star Wars LCG though). What time does it start on the 24th?

Thanks for the invite to Chantilly, VA. It's a little far, but if I ever get my X-wing playing up to chops I will keep Game Parlor in mind.

It's been starting at 3pm on Sundays...but I will confirm the time...I think he wants to shift it to 1pm.

There is an Xwing tourney at games and stuff in Glen Burnie, md on Dec 7th...registration at 11am.

Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately, I, for one, will not be able to make it. That is the day of my daughters birthday party. Good luck to everyone that is able to attend!

thnx,

Christoph

There is an Xwing tourney this sunday at Beyond Comics, $6 registration fee...starts at 1pm. FYI.

Waiting for it to be rescheduled. Will it be a 100 point tournament?

Yeah, 100 pt squads...the Xwing tourney has been moved to Dec 29th (Sunday) at 1pm.

Victory84...hit me up if you want to play the LCG also....I'm sure we can work out a date/time.

Sent you a message. I wouldn't mind playing some X-wing ahead of the tournament. Probably need some major tweaking in order to have a competitive 100 point squad build.

Actually, even having a competitive squad build will not always get you a win. Being 1-4 in the two events I have played in, I have ran previously successful builds, but not knowing how to fly them, strategy in ways to attack, luck or bad luck in dice rolling and even a competitive build can lose.

X-wing is not like your typical games. Building on recognizing the spacial aspects of the flight path system, learning what each ships r capable of and just having fun with a game that typically goes the distance.

Jet setter and the rest of the crew that play at Games and Stuff and the Game Parlor have made me feel welcome and I look forward to more events and possibly playing weekly if I can.

Totally agree with your comment. Do you live in the Frederick area too?

Well sort of.. I live north of Hagerstown Md in Pa and work in the Columbia Md/Glen Burnie area. I ran into jet setter while playing Wednesday MtG at Games and Stuff. I had been collecting the figures and trying to get my friends to play when jet setter invited me to come to games parlor in Chantilly. Is it a drive yeah but playing for 4+ hours was worth it.

I knew most rules but knowing them is different from playing especially actually flying the figs.. First tourney I ran into so many ships and asteroids you think I was flying drunk.. Second tourney I did better but still had some issues. I want to start playing during their casual get together cause the practice will help.

You can get by on 3-4 minis so you don't need everything. And there r deals out there with online merchants. While I still advocate a purchase here and there from your local game shop.. One online merchant was selling figs at half price of retail.

Also I don't know if you know about wear and tear on dials. Putting tack paper over the numbers will save the dial from wear as you spin for your maneuvers.

That's quite the commute.

Thanks for the heads up about the dials. I wasn't aware of the need to protect the them.

So would you want to play in Frederick? I'm available most Sunday afternoons and Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Looking too with Christmas coming up, don't have the time. Jet setter wants to keep working on trying something Friday and Sunday and I need to decide on if I am jumping out of MtG before I can free my Fridays.

We could try to get together on Monday's, right now Sunday's at Beyond Comics are typically for Attack Wing OP events or Xwing tourneys...(Sundays are a bad day for me generally, with football and it's my wife's only day off)....but I still try to make them work :-)

I should be able to make Monday evenings work. You make good points about Sunday and I won't be able to do Fridays.

Yeah, 100 pt squads...the Xwing tourney has been moved to Dec 29th (Sunday) at 1pm.

There's a decent chance that I'll be able to make this. But if I do, it'll primarily be just to watch and/or get some side games in. $6 doesn't seem like much but due to my inexperience, I'm virtually guaranteed to lose.

As for a regular game night, the only day that I'd be able to play is on Fridays. Sundays aren't good for me, either, due to other games I play (V:tes and Netrunner) and other weekdays just aren't possible. :/

thnx,

Christoph

I reached out to the guy who started this forum. He said his brother and some of his co-workers play X-wing. Sounded like he was still interested in playing with a group in Frederick. I'll ask him what days he is available.

If it ends up being Friday, I can always see everybody at the tournaments and play X-wing on Mondays with Jetsetter and Sundays with Thabigwolf as their schedule allows.

Christoph,

You should play, the games great equalizer (dice) really don't favor anyone! Plus, it's always good to play multiple people with different styles. Just my 2 cents! Besides our local tourneys are a good place to see how that environment works.

GeekZap says Sundays and Mondays work best for him. Don't know about his other buddies yet.

But if I do, it'll primarily be just to watch and/or get some side games in.

I will be happy to play some side games. I'm not expecting to go far, so I would probably have some free time on my hands.

looks like we could be fielding a Monday crew?
