Honestly, I would like a thread for that discussion because I am very interested in how the 2 games play different to each other. But I get the impression that many on this board would not be happy with such a thread existing.
I know, but I DO want to know the differences about both games, I´m more of a Star Trek fan over SW but, I was just really angry about wizkids not respecting the scales.
It's all so pretty I wish I could do things like that buy my strong point was always painting not conversions, still will be showing my friend this thread he's the mad genius builder.
The new stuff looks just fine Bully, except for the assy paper stuff.
Yes WK's Attack Wing is a good game if you are playing with good people who refuse to put Picard on a Borg Cube with Scotty and Worf to fight against Kirk and his old buddie Sisko who are in command of a Romulan Fleet...
FFG is doing a much better job with X-Wing.

Best thing to do really ...IMO
Ken, if you just stick 'turbo turret' into ebay search engine it will bring the up pretty much on top, about £10 for 4. Really nice piece of kit, comes with magnets and snazzy destroyed versions which just slot under the turrets
Forgottenlore TBH I would suggest picking up a Trek starter set (they are pretty cheap and I'm assuming you already own X-wing) and give it a try,I tend to favour try n buy and the trek and xwing fan boys will argue the toss until their little heads explode, I like to make my own decisions based on my own experiences however and not on what other people think they know
I just prefer Trek (at the moment) because there are lots more choices of ships, the blisters tend to be better value for money and you can tinker around with the ships more because they generally have more slots than the X wing fighters.
Of course Joe Boss has hit the nail on the head too, steer clear of anyone sporting a long beard and smelling of cabbage in any game system and your on to a winner, saying that it's not beyond the realms of Trekness to see the Enterprise crew on board a Klingon Bird of Prey and travelling in time so the fun options are always there over a few beers!
I agree too Joe, DS is definitely cheap n cheerful, I had actually got all the gear out and was going to start making a full 3D modular board like many have done on here then it suddenly hit me, I thought 'Meh, why bother, I will probably have time to fit 1, maybe 2 games of X -wing in the next year and when we finally do play it, it will probably be on the space mate anyway! So I put all my stuff away and went and played Wolfenstien while the PDF printed instead
My X-wing stuff here... http://www.tanksandtrolls.co.uk/Xwing.htm which incidentally I have just realised I haven't updated with the re-paints!

Live long and prosper with the force!
Edited by bulldogukFinally opened the large ship boxes, blimey stock paint jobs have gone a little **** up haven't they!
Anyhow, thought it would be interesting to see the FFG models next to their Kenner equivs
All in all perfectly acceptable for my casual games, ordered the 6x3 deep space game mat, awesomely complicated epic battles here we come!
the FFG model looks nice next to the Neb B
Live long and prosper with the force!
Cheers Mate!
Finished a few more re-paints...
Back shuttle is the Xmas Bauble and front is the FFG shuttle, as you can see the FFG is slightly smaller
This is the Xmas bauble shuttle, frankly its much better than the official FFG version and it lights up and plays the Empire march!
Even though I was one of the special few who had the personalised version of this stock shuttle with actual fingerprints from the little Chinese guy who dipped it in a bucket of emulsion (I kid you not) I still forced myself to re-paint...
Slave 1
Spiced up the two Ace Interceptors with a few extra wings, an idea blatantly copied from Major Tom because it looks brilliant and I have no shame...cheers Tom
Finally finished all the little chaps, up to date right now so can paint as they release, just I time for the next wave of Star Trek AW!
Falcon, Hawk, Tie Defender and Phantom done in this batch, still unsure whether I can be bothered to purchase the E-wing and headhunter right now but will probably end up with them in the name of a complete collection and to give more choice in games
Kept the Falcon as standard, just spruced it up a little
Re painted the Hawk
Defender and Phantom, basically just touched up and brought out the details and added the cloaking effect to the Phantom
Grabbed some brilliant templates and cards from 'afewmaneuvers.com' by sans_fi. After playing around with the scale of the ship template got it to fit on my custom ISD base, voila a 'working ISD for my games using the huge ship rules. Of course, the 'special' people among us will be tearing their hair out screaming 'WHAT ABOUT SCALE' but frankly I don't care when I can have a couple of destroyers trading broad sides while the little guys are weaving in and out doing what they do best, finally getting a little bit of my keen back for X-wing with the prospect of huge battles like this, it's what SW is all about IMO! My new 6 x 3 space mat is preparing for some action!
I like that ISD, are there closer pics of those Ship cards?
What is the total points cost of it without upgrades
Edited by HwarangdaemInb4 scale comment.
Liking the paint jobs mate, if you and your friends don't mind the scale that's cool I'd be more concerned with something that strong on the table with no real counter, you must do a Mon cal ship now.
Hope this link works http://www.afewmaneuvers.com/topic/2519-star-destroyer-huge-ship-full-design/ all the info you need there. Doesn't seem to be overpowered, in fact he recommends taking a few fighter escorts. Our games are all about fun tbh so we can easily wing it as required. When I have the time I will have a fiddle with the template so it fits the base of the Republic cruiser I have and use the same card set for that as the ISD for now. I'm not really into the card design thing and cant stand to be sat at a computer for any length of time so it would be great if someone could drop some specific cards in for the neb (maybe make the cards assault Neb specific) and republic (big sh*t eating grin)
I have a fleet that hasn't seen any action as yet and at least another 3 large ship builds planned!
PS. Hobojebus, I did build a mon cal a while back......but we ate it.....
Edited by bulldogukGood job, especially that Mon Calamari Cruiser! However, I do think your ships deserve some better pictures or is it perhaps a lack of a good camera that is the problem?
I think the lighting is off on the Mon cal picture looks a little green
My friends looking to picking up the tantive soon it'll be interesting to fly against that, not quite got the ship's for epic play yet but it's something we are looking forward to though.
Macross you hit the nail on the head, rubbish (and very old) camera, rubbish skills using it and a lack of interest wanting to waste time to set up a good shot! I really should put some time aside I know as my miniatures look much much better in the flesh than any pictures I have posted....on the plus side usually when customers receive there painted miniatures they are blown away at how much better they look with the good old mk1 eyeball!
Re-painted the Z-95 and E-wing. Just brought out the detail with a little extra shading and lining really. Zed is really growing on me, I actually like the shape and look better than the X-wing!
Picked up a cheap Falcon a couple of weeks ago and seeing as I enjoyed painting my model decided to give this one a tickle over with the brush too, as tempted as I am to keep it think I will probably stick it on ebay and whatever it sells for can go towards the next wave
Right half has been tickled, left half is stock
Finished falcon (might keep it yet)!
I ain't gonna say more...but I **** sure do love the Zeds as much as our long time friend the Xwinger.
I saw one at a yard sale over the summer wish I had gotten it now.
I would love to see a expansion with prequel era ships ... http://gaddiesgallery.blogspot.com/2014/08/things-i-would-like-to-see-in-any-up.html
And if you really want to go crazy do a SWTOR or KOTOR ship versions of the game.
I Did a repaint of the YT-1300 last night it's my first try and miniature painting http://gaddiesgallery.blogspot.com/2014/08/blog-post.html
what is the size comparision between the Kenner corvette and the FFG one?
