Hey guys,

So i painted my figures with GW paints and clear coated them with krylon clear flat as i do with all my mini's i paint. But there is a problem showing up with the dust figures (not the walkers) just the figures. They are now shiny and are sticky. Has anyone had this problem with their figures?? The only thing i can come up with is 1) some chemical reaction, but that seams weird that it is only with these figures and not with any other brands of figures i paint, or 2) after painting, i let them dry for about a week and then put them in a sealed plastic clear case ( Its made by Testors and is made for displaying model cars but works great for my mini's also ) maybe they were not fully dry yet and became sticky because of that….?? I don't know.

Any ideas os suggestions would be appreciated.

That's a weird one, if anything goes wrong with varnishing its normally a white mist on the figures and not, not drying and shiny. Is this stuff you are using spay or brush-on? Could it be the end of the bottle and not shaken up fully and/or wrong mixture of substances left in the bottle, when was the last time it was used
?

That is what's wierd. The can is half full and has been used at the same time on Sodapop and GW mini's with no ill effect, only the Dust ones and like i said before, only the figures not the walkers. They are now out of the display case and i will let them air out for another week then try spraying them with dull coat again and see what happens, unless someone has a better solution for me.

I've had this problem before. I have two figures from Mansions of Madness that I painted over a year ago, and they never dried… I thought it was a fluke, but after I noticed the same problem with a third figure last week, I looked online and read that the Krylon fixative is incompatible with soft plastic. It leaves the figures sticky and shiny. I haven't tried it myself, but I've seem several recommendations for Testor's Dullcote for soft plastic figures.

That one says one should also avoid Krylon primer for soft plastic figures because it can cause the same reaction. Here is a thread from BGG, originally a tutorial about the dip method, which turns into a discussion of the tacky figure problem since several of the people there ran into it. Some of them talk about what they tried to fix their figures, and you might want to take a look at their solutions:

Sorry to hear about your issue. Some paints can have chemical reactions with plastic that cause the sticky and glossy finish. There is no real way to fix this unless you can try applying some Model Master Flat. It does not always work but at times it does. I have had rubber tires react this way and I shot them with the Model Master FLat and they stopped being sticky. Also rubbing the minis with some dirt scenic powders can help. Otherwise you have to read the cans and make sure they are for plastic. I use Valspar and Rustoleum clear gloss from home depot or lowes as both are specific to covering plastics.

I've also had this issue before painting minis, and as previously suggested, I had good luck with just going back over it with flat clear enamel. Hopefully everything's good and your problem's solved.

I've used krylon matte to coat my entire army, and I've had 2 problem though both only popped up ocasionaly and during sub optimal spraying conditions. one is the sticky models the second is the frosted glass/ snowy look. I fixed them both by spraying with testors dullcoat, and the sticky models by spraying with by respraying with the krylon. I think its somthing to do with it not drying correctly/ the humidity.

Okay,

So yesterday i sprayed a few light coats of Tamiya clear flat and so far so good. Nice and flat and no sticky residue. I will give another update in a week or so.
