Winning by X total STR…

By Totalgit, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Take the following example:

Player A has the Superior Claim card with text "Response: After you win a challenge by 4 or more total STR, claim 2 power for your House. Limit 1 per challenge."

He does a power challenge and totals the Strength of his characters and has a total STR of 4 with one character. Player B defends with one character with STR 3 .

"The player whose side has the highest total STR wins the challenge. Tied STR goes to the attack-er, as long as the attacker has at least 1 total STR on his side ."

Now player A wins the challenge, his total STR for this challenge is 4, players B's total STR is 3. The text doesnt mention subtracting one STR from the other it just says highest wins.

So i assume Player A has won a challenge by a total STR of 4 hasnt he? Player B has lost the challenge with a total STR of 3. Wouldnt the text be "After you win a challenge by 4 or more STR, do something" be the correct text for player A to need a STR of 7 to use superior claim?

It never mentions that somebodys total STR = Attackers total STR - defenders total STR only which is where im getting confused so could somebody help me out either way?

Compare it to the card "Make an Example."

Yeh, thats made things simple, i just got hung up on the "have i won by 4 STR or more…well my total STR is higher so i win and i have 4 STR so thats yes & yes. My thoughts were along the lines of had Player A used a STR 3 character and player B a str 2 character then it wouldnt have been a yes."

Make an example shows a perfect example of what i was meaning, shame i missed it when i did a search and had to ask a stupid question thats def already been asked ;)
