Why take Precognitive Dodge …

By Darth Smeg, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Well, it's the right book for it at least. Sounds like something Slaanesh might approve of :)

Well I am giving up of defending a power that I will never use, If I ever get to play a psyker or anything along that line…

I asked to get the input of the designers on this one, and here is what Tim has to say on the matter (including a bonus question not really related but also on Psy powers)

Rule Question:
Question 1:

The Telekinetic Shield power seems very weak compared to its siblings, and when compared to its corresponding version in Rogue Trader.

The Dark Heresy version grants just 1 single AP, with an additional 1 AP pr 10 points of overbleed. With a rather high cost, it is unlikely to grant many points.

The Rogue Trader version grants 1 AP pr Psy Rating, which seems rather more appropriate. Is this a missing element form the DH power, or is it deliberately much weaker?

Question 2:

Precognitive Dodge is also a power which seems sadly underpowered compared to its much more useful little sibling Distort Vision.

I have read the Errata, but even in its nerfed state, the minor power is cheaper, better and more versatile than the more expensive discipline power.

Should one of these powers be adjusted, or am I missing something?

Hi Darth!

The DH rules were done first, so there are several things we've updated in later games like Rogue Trader. It's correct as written, but if your group (and GM!) want to try it with the RT rules then give it a go!
DV is indeed pretty great, but when facing ranged foes with augmented senses (which could be almost any helmeted enemy), it does suffer. Autofiring sentry guns would also be unwelcome. If you play a psyker who doesn't enjoy close combat, I'd go more for PD. If you plan on getting stuck in, especially against lower-tech foes, then DV would be the choice. Great discussion on this too BTW.
Hope these help and thanks for playing!
