What is going on with the Forum Search?

By Uncle Joker, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I can not search the Forum any more. What is going on?

I know someone has asked questions of similar before, but I can not find it without "searching".

My question is as below.

1) Will Khal Drogo (CS)'s ability be cancelled by HCIT? I know The Iron Throne can not cancel Meera's ability just because it is triggered from out of play.

2) Can a character both in the attack side and the defend side? Such as Greatjon Umber.

3) Can the defend player choose a character that not under his control but participated as defender to die for Military Claim or Death? Such as Greatjon Umber or Walder Frey.

HCIT can cancel's Khal Drogo's "put into play" Response. It's pointless - other than to put a +2 STR Boon onto one of your opponents - because your opponent can just trigger the Khal from their hand again - but it is possible .

you control

However, the rules say that if the defender controls fewer participating characters with Deadly than the attacker, they must choose and kill a participating defending character. That does not limit you to characters you control, so you can choose characters that participated on defense that you do not control to die for Deadly.

The comparison to the Lanni-Iron Throne is not particularly good. The Iron Throne cancels character abilities, but HCIT cancels any and all Response effects.

Nothing prevents it, so as long as the effects that get the character to do it are legal, the character can count his STR on both sides of the same challenge.

The rules say that when you lose a military challenge, you have to choose and kill one of your characters (i.e., one that you control ) for claim. So no, you cannot choose a character that participated as a defender to die for military claim unless you also control it.

However, the rules say that if the defender controls fewer participating characters with Deadly than the attacker, they must choose and kill a participating defending character. That does not limit you to characters you control, so you can choose characters that participated on defense that you do not control to die for Deadly.

Thank you ktom.

It seems that the deadly rules made Walder Frey a dead card.

reply from ffg:

The answer is no. Participation is a binary state, you either are participating or ar not. Without being removed from a challenge it is impossible to participate in a challenge multiple times. For example Greatjon Umber, or a character with a naval enhancement, could not be made to participate as an attacker multiple times adding its STR to that side each time. The same reasoning is applied to it being declared as an attacker and defender, once it has been made to participate once, it can not be made to do so again, on any side, without first being removed from the challenge.
His ability and the rules text for the naval enhancement states "as an attacker or defender" to illustrate the binary state. If it were possible to be both an attacker and defender the ability should be worded differently to either make this explicit.!

Well, that makes a big difference for old Walder…

That's a change they made for the Naval rules, then. FFG has ruled specifically in the past that if you attack with Greatjon, then stand him, you can use his ability to make him defend in the same challenge.

How does this affect Walder, Khudzlin? It doesn't change the "enter as a defender and get killed by his own Deadly" thing at all.

Never mind, the situation was pretty unlikely (though he can gain icons easily with Men of Duty, now).

Just go to Google.com and do a seach like:

walder frey deadly site:www.fantasyflightgames.com

That will give you the results you are looking for. The forum search function has never worked for me so I'm really glad some guys at cardgamesdb pointed this out one week.
