Fanmade Quest & Exp Log (work in progress)

By NeMeSiS_tm, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hallo Descent Players!

I am new to this Forum but i am a Fan from the Descent Board Game. Actually i am working on a "better" Quest and Exp Log Sheet. The Original ones are really small and B&W. So i made my own.

Here a first look after 2-3h of work:

Quest & Exp Log

The image appears to be cut off at the bottom, so forgive me if anything I mention here is already accounted for below.

This quest sheet seems well set up to track XP earned by each hero in each quest. I'm not sure what the "City" column is supposed to be for, though. Is that to track spent XP? I'm not sure how important it really is to keep track of which XP you've spent, as long as the running total is correct.

There doesn't seem to be a spot for gold, though that may have been cut off, as I mentioned.

There also doesn't seem to be an easy way of tracking who won each quest here (heroes or OL), which is a pretty important aspect of the campaign mechanics, both immediately (for determining who gets to pick the next quest) and in the long term (for determining which Act II quests are available to be picked after the Interlude.)

Finally, just from a personal point of view, I find the blood stains really annoying. Perhaps you could make the text more bold, or the blood more faded, so that it would be easier to read?

I find the Quest log that comes with the game quite to my satisfaction. Everything I would like to put on it, I can. I find yours a bit cluttered, maybe because I don't know why the "City" column is there but mostly because of the blood stains. Indeed maybe if you faded it some more, it would be ok. Plus there is no way to log who won which quest. Hence the name "quest" log. I do understand it is a work in progress, but would suggest you take the standard sheet and add from there. So you don't forget anything.

Nice idea.

I would suggest to (re)use the quest tracker from the original sheet it is perfect for its job of campaign progress tracking.

But in my opinion useful would be on the other side to have more space to track on what exact skill the experience went for and what items were sold and purchased with the gold. I find it currently lacking.

Something like the card on the board-game-geak looks not bad: http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/80940/descent-2e-character-tracking-sheet

Though it is too complex it all could be on one piece of card where you would just write what you bought, then who is using it doesn't real matter as heroes can exchange items before a quest start, and they use gold from a common pot anyway.

Personally something of this form would be sufficient for each player, so 5 in total including Overlord:

………. total exp earned

skill name | exp cost

……………….. |…………….

……………….. |…………….

And two more tables: one for gold and item purchase/sell (or artefacts won) tracking and one for overlord to track artefacts won (though you can figure out who has which artefact by looking at the campaign progress). Something like this would be more useful then the current tiny chracter sheet as you could easily pick the campaign up even after a longer break, and you can remind yourself what was bough what sold etc.

Anyway we use a single piece of paper for all except the campaign progress tracking and we are very happy with that :)

All the Best,
