book of eibon

is this the new lcg temple of nephra ka? its not as good, and doesnt give you a cost reduction, but it allows you to place stuff in your discard pile.....but then snow graves is gonna be around in the lcg format......

when i first saw the card i thought of playing it on my characters, not the opponent. with opener of the gate you could get yog out quicker. include some miskatonic for some draw, then discard the right cards with the help eibon. i wonder how quick yog could hit the table with a well tuned (lcg) deck......

I don't know how well it would work. You have to have over 5 cards in hand, so you either need to be playing MU or a Yog/MU deck in this case (to keep drawing extra cards) or you need to hoard your cards so that you have enough in hand to force the discard.

For example: let's look at first turn.

You draw 8 cards and resource 3 of them, leaving you with 5 cards.

If you go first, you draw 1 card (6 cards in hand). You'll have to resource one to eventually pay for the Book of Eibon (costs two), leaving 5 cards in hand. Now, assuming you drew the 1-cost character and a Book of Eibon, you can play them both now (3 cards in hand). Next turn must be spent replenishing your hand (5 cards in hand, or 4 if you decide to resource)

If you go second, you can drop both a character and the Book of Eibon, leaving you with 6 cards in hand, which forces you to discard one of them.

Turn 2: In either instance above, you will be discarding down to 5 as soon as you draw. If you choose to do nothing, you will still have five cards in hand to repeat this next turn. But you need to play Opener of the Gate out (at some point anyway), so you will be down to 4 cards.

Turn 3: you have definitely discarded some monsters and spells by now. You can probably play Yog for 3 or 4 by now.

But you have also lost 3 turns of sitting back and letting your opponent do whatever he wants. And any further characters you drop or resources you add to your domains, slows down how effective this card can be.

In the end, it might just be easier to play out Spells and play Monsters and if they get wounded or sacrificed, let them reduce Yog that way. But maybe, with proper tuning, you can make it work. Let us know how it turns out if you try it.

yeah the 5 card part is alot, cause you cant sit by and hoard for 3 turns. in the lcg format miskatonic only has unearthing the ancients and dr ali right now and those arent first turn cards either.

but i do think book of eibon is a better card played against yourself.....it is pretty chrd to have lots of cards in hand early in the game. if the game goes awhile then you might end up with too many cards, but that doesnt happen that often. but then you could just play yog anyways.
