Imperial Customs Frigate and Millennium Falcon Kitbash

By Only Warlock, in X-Wing

I've been working on adding Larger ships to my imperial and Rebel Squadrons, including an Imperial Customs Frigate and the Millennium Falcon:

In addition, I have a Rebel transport Model Kit on the way (From the old Battle For Hoth model kit)

Very nice. I think the scale is off on the Frigate though. And you know the Falcon comes out in a month or two right?

Roy

Is the Falcon scale pretty close? Gotta admit, it does look good in formation with the rebel ships. Still not sure if I'll get one tho.

The Customs Frigate Bridge is actually thicker than the Falcon's cockpit. TIE Cockpits are enormous in scale, so it's actually a little deceptive.

As far as the official Falcon coming out, I saw the model kit for $10 and wanted to play around with it, so i did.

When the "real" one comes out i can always convert it to a generic YT Class Freighter. <shrug>.

Great! Would love to see this get an official release.

Here are some close shots of the falcon:

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong ship. The ones I'm thinking of hold 30+ TIEs.

Ahh, I see. this is just my made up ship. i am not trying to recreate any "real" Customs frigate. i just wanted a teeny imperial customs enforcement ship to balance out the Falcon.

The other ship i am starting is the Rebel transport. this way I can do "Convoy Raid" scenarios and "Rebel trap" Scenarios:

This is one someone else is using:

Wow, now that is awesome.

There is an Imperial customs frigate which is about the same length as the Falcon.

I just looked it up and there is!

Carries 3 crew and up to 10 passengers. It looks a bit different, but I assume it is because it was constructed at the inferior Kuat shipyards as opposed to the superior Corellian Shipyards.

That's pretty cool. Couple of questions on the models. Where did you find the model kit's for that size? Not necessarily want to use them for the game…but i have a 3 month old, and those would make an absolutely killer mobile for his crib :) Gotta get him started on Star Wars early. The other question is around the base on the Falcon. Did you make an acrylic base, or how did you come up with that?

Thanks,

Tuen

The Millennium Falcon is the Revell Snap-Tite kit that is out everywhere right now for $12 (I just cleaned it up and gave it a strong ink wash).

The Imperial Customs Frigate is my own scratch built kit built out of hand-cut styrene plastic.

The Rebel Transport is part of the old "Battle for Hoth" Model kit that came out a zillion years ago. You can often pick them up cheap on Ebay.

The Acrylic base is one of my extras from Firestorm armada BUT there are two great sources for appropriate bases.

Litko Aerosystems makes very similar ones to the ones I used and Corsec Engineering JUST released Custom high-end bases specifically to use for kitbashing X-Wing ships

Looks a lot like a Guardian light cruiser with a bridge on top and a little more triangle shaped. That one is a bit longer than the Falcon, but not much. Definitly fits with Star Was and cool to have something in scale that still feels a bit more substantial.

Where did you get the rebel transport and what is its scale?

As i indicated above:

"The Rebel Transport is part of the old "Battle for Hoth" Model kit that came out a zillion years ago. You can often pick them up cheap on Ebay."

i do not recall that the kit assigned any scale, but I know it's about half what it should be. BUT, if it were truly scaled right it would be about a yard long.

Since there are few visual scale references on the model I think it will look fine.

I just have to say that I love the design of that frigate. I've thought of modelling out a custom design ship that I implemented in my old RPG, because it's size would be appropriate.

Rules question: Do you field it as though both cannons can fire forward, but each can also fire individually from the side instead?

Thanks! I kept it simple to test it, giving it a single 360 value like the Falcon with Cluster missiles available in the front arc.

Might have to make my own if I feel inspired. I think the rebel transport would only be 13-16in. Looked it up earlier. Had one of those old kits way back in the day.

Fantastic job OW! Your endless creativity inspired me to build a couple of Imperial patrol escorts of my own, thanks. I can't wait to see how your Nebulon B project turns out.

I picked up one of the Millenium Falcon snap kits at mt LHS. Great price and good scale match.

Someone on board game geek has made a full Nebula B. I think it is half scale though. Still huge.

Really nice work - the customs frigate is particularly cool :)

The Rebel Transport - GR-75 - would scale down to 33.3 CM in 1/270

The GR-45 Medium Transport (seen in A New Hope) would scale down to 22.2 CM in 1/270

The Rebel transport from the old MPC kit that you are using is about 23 CM long, which is about 2/3 the scale for a GR-75, but perfect for a GR-45.

Happen to have a link? I tried to find it, but my search-fu failed me. :/
