Marine Gender?

By darksabrz, in Deathwatch Gamemasters

Imagine the confusion of someone new to the conversation clicking on the topic 'Space Marine Gender' only to find a discussion of Black Templar fluff. ;)

The software designer who comes up with a way to turn divergent Forum posts into their own separate threads will make millions.

The trick is Active Moderation by staff.....

Not sure how many are on staff in the FFG Forums, nor this game in particular but it would appear that there aren't many nor are they very active....much less doing anything to actively clarify Rules nor answer questions directly related to their product.

To quote a recent article regarding a transgender Victoria's Secret model:

" Gender...is reaching a point where it is no longer important what you were born as but what you make of yourself ."

...move along, these are not the female space marines you're looking for.

All Astartes are male. That's the only thing you need to know. A small mind is an orderly mind and all that.

The fluff makes it pretty clear that Space Marines are dudes and only dudes.

What we did was make a Black Shield marine for our female player and just said she was a Sister of Battle and could look how she wanted to.

You guys should really read through the thread.

I did. Hence the above reply. Which was intended to be part humorous and part serious. Because this is a topic that never gets old, yet is completely left field.

Of course the thread also completely derailed from the original topic, so I thought I'd bring the important bits back into focus :)

Perhaps. But with a thread this long and the various view points and tangents it has taken, a reply such as yours just seemed not to add anything. It derails from the depths of some of the issues people have brought up and really debated over.

There could be a heated debate on homosexual-marriage and to just walk up and say, "Gays shouldn't marry because this book says so" seems to derail from the bigger issues players and GMs seem to be having with their game (not saying that a debate on gender in a sci fi universe is as far reaching or deep as this real life event, but just to make a point).

Obviously that would be your take on the issue and you wouldn't allow your players to do something like have a female space marine, cool. But I fail to see what is being added to the larger conversation as a whole seeing as you basically just reiterated something that has been stated previously.

Kudos to you for reading through the whole thread.
