ok, so I was going to respond to a post, however it was going to be way off topic, so I thought Id make a new topic.
Whats your expereince with gaming stores?
Where Im from there are three stores.
The first gaming store I went into is at a very active mall. Its ran by a father and son and have recently hired a few extra hands. All the employees are very nice, the gaming tables are great, and the products offered is wide. (its a very new store, only a few years old)
The second is an old house turned to a comic shop. A husband and wife run it and their mother helps (not sure which one shes the mother of). Its a very friendly atmosphere, kinda feels like a hidden gem. Their selection of Warhammer items is extensive.
The third is the oldest of the three, owned by a guy, its in an old mall. Sells all sorts of games, but is mostly known for magic.
So I walked into store #3 with my girlfriend to see what he had. My girlfriend is obsessed with the original pokemon cards and is always looking for them at yardsales and little knick knack stores. So she approached the owner and asked if he had any pokemon cards. He responded by telling her that no one plays pokemon any more and that its a dead game. she then told him she didnt want to play it, but only collected the cards. He responded by telling her that only idiots collect the cards because they lose value. I told him (in a polite way without realizing he offended my girl) that I noticed the new store ran tournements for pokemon (store #1). He immediately told me the store closed yesterday because they couldnt keep the bussiness going and the owning was an idiot. I was shocked and saddened to hear my first gaming store closed down.
I then asked if he had any warhammer stuff. he then gave me a bunch of information about how it was expensive and took too long to play, and also occupied too much space, he then informed me idiots get involved in that game (I already had my army) and noone around the area sold it.
I was sure store #2 sold it. Thinking the man never left his store much I infromed him that the store that was less then a mile from him sold warhammer items, He then bluntly called me an idiot and told me the store closed two years ago (which it did but reopened a month ago). So I refused to buy anything in the shop and left after I finished looking at his overpriced items.
I went to store #1 to see if they were still opened, which they were…. I told them about the incident and the owner laughed and said they should have a re grand opening. I also found out he had been telling lots of people they closed down.
The second store and the first store organized the very first state geek convention. (store #3 was not invited….) every gaming and/or comic store had a booth at the convention.
I goto the first store often due to the high volume of players, and make sure I buy my Xwing items. dice, paints, and whatever else I feel I need to compulisivly buy for their operation to stay up. The second store I pick up warhammer items (which they are in stock in everything I can want) They are also cheaper then the first store for warhammer items (10% off GW reccomended price).
I was at the first store Sunday, and was filming a battle report (have a few that need to be edited) and halfway through the first move the store owner just comes up and places an y-wing and a tie fighter infront of us and said the winner gets to choose which item he wants. (though with the amount of xwing items, and getting my friend involved, I proable gave him the retail value of 10 booster packs, so he just got my opponent more hooked in the game and got me a bigger fan of the store (though I was always a fan)
I tend to be unorganized when I speak and am used to different forum setup when Im typing a long message, however this will have to due. I know it must look like a gramical train wreck
