Noob question :)

By lentheman, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hi guys

I have just completed my first game of AH.

I played a solo game with just one investigator to get used to the rules.

I have a quick question as it feels like i am doing something wrong.

As there was only the one investigator i found it difficult getting around the board to obtain enough clue tokens or eldar signs to seal gates.

because of this gates were opening all over, and monster surges were happening at least 1/3 turns usually every other turn.

Due to this happening the number of monsters in Arkham increased by a large number taking them over the monster limit of 4 for the game quite often.

My question is the outskirts seem to fill up to 7 very very quickly adding a doom token around once every 3 turns!! Does this sound correct??

Its nice not having as many monsters running around, but the combination of lots of monsters in the outskirts and new gates opening made the final boss appear far too quickly.

I know this is a very hard game to get good at, just wanted to see if i may have been doing something wrong with spawning monsters :)

Thanks all!!

I played my first solo game yesterday and had a very similar expereince. So, if you did something wrong, I did too! It makes me feel better atleast! I had surges all over the place! Hope you enjoyed the game none-the-less! -C

Thanks for the feedback :)

Makes me feel a whole lot better now!! It seemed like it was wrong but also was asthe rules explained it.

I think i will try with two investigators next see how that works out :)

I did indeed enjoy my first game, and can see myself playing many solo games in future before introducing to out group, just to get the rules nailed down!!

Great game so far!!

That's going to tend to happen with 1- and 2-investigator teams. The closer your team tends to 4 or 5, the more balance you'll see in the different mechanics.

Smaller sized teams are going to have a harder time closing/sealing, but an easier time winning the final combat. Larger teams are the opposite.

Outskirts move the terror track up not the doom. Unless you reach ten, then the doom track goes up one.

This is no longer the rule. When you hit TL 10, no doom tokens are added—however, for the rest of the game, each increase on the terror level adds a doom token instead.

I played again tonight with some friends who wanted to play since I was all jazzed about my first game and was talked about it. We played with three investigators and there were way fewer monster surges and we were able to win by sealing 6 gates.

Congrats! Three is a comfortable team.
