By Basuh, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

we made 5 games in a row and after 2nd game every game was similar…..

first 1-2 turns get boost in kingdom, then play battlefield and 1 power for carddraw….. just steamroll after. really bad gameplay for my part. we tried to analyze and came to conclusion that you cant stop enemy from that, if you rush you brun 1 section but lose after that. EVERY game was like that… boring….

questions:

1. is there a max handsize? (since after turn 4-5 its getting out of hand, since you cannot remove power that fast)

2. battle are really noninteractive, only coresetproblem?

3. what did we do that we hate the gameplay? it feels same difficulty like yugioh…..and not comparable to AGOT LOTR or cthullhu

i wanted to compare it against netrunner to check which i am gonna play, but WI feels like game for 10y olds in compare

greets

1) There is no max hand size. You start with 7, then draw one for every power in your Quest zone. If after 4 or 5 turns your hand size is getting out of control, then you just need to play less support and unit cards into your quest zone. The less power in that zone, the less cards you will draw per turn.

2) I'm not sure I know what you mean about "noninteractive". Make sure that whoever is defending is "hitting back" the attacking units with their appropriate amount of hammers/power. It's up to you to declare who, if anyone, you want to defend. If your friend is attacking your kingdom, you don't even have to defend. Sometimes it may be worth taking the damage so that those units are still in play and you get the benefit of getting more resource tokens in your following turn(s).

3) I can't say why you hated the game play. I have heard that the game is not as "deep" as AGOT. With just the core set, your deckbuilding options are quite limited, though. Pick up 1 or 2 of the premium expansions and maybe a couple of battle backs and you can really start building all sorts of various decks.

I hoped my response help. I'm not quite sure I understood exactly what you were after, but I tried to shed some light. It really is a fun game. It's not "crazy-difficult", but I think you will find it more fun/challenging the more you expand your card pool.

with only the baseset its just drawluck, who draws more units. if one guy gets a hero and the other don't its kinda over for you (3power vs 1 powerunits). sure the game gets better with battlepacks, but many guy telling that coregame is already much fun and it isn't any fun for me and i am really adicted to cardgames :D . played agot, magic, l5r, lotr and in compare to this games this seems for kids or the coreset is really bad product getting people into the game.

IMHO it is "core set" game play, torunament play don't have too much common with that. Deckbuilded Inwasion is about control, tempo and setting combo combinations. Remeber that many important cards from core set are single, so there is more luck in drawing needed cards than in gameplay, where You have all cards x3. For example Judgement of Verena is really powerful card when You have 3 Elector's Will, 3 Hidden Grove, 3 Long Winter and Pristess of Verena. Also 3x Rip dere 'eads off + 3 Bloothirsters are powerful acceleartion (5 power for 1 in any zone and no damage cancelation). Chaos without Sorcerer of Tzeentch, Warhounds, Desacrated Temple, Pague Bomb and Raiding Camps isn't the same fraction. There are also High and Dark Elves, neutral races - undeads with powerful vampires, lizardmans, skavens and wood elves. I suggest You to check Assault on Ulthuan and Legends as "big box expansions". Also You should look on some tournaments decklists, to see how deckbuilded Invasion looks…. for example below is my DE hard control deck, finished 4th on 82 players in Polish Nationals. I often start to finish off my opponents with Mannfred aka "Psychatog", when they cannot do anything to stop me ;-) and I am sure that any "core set" deck cannot much such control…

new DE control (50k)

3 Warpstone Excavation (0)
3 Contested Village (1)
3 Temple of Spite (2DeDe)
3 Promenade of Malice (3DeDe)

3 Hate (0De)

HEHE. dicetower is lying then! tom claimed its fun right out of the coreset…

i dont want to troll, i really LOVE the setting and background…. BUT:

still feels by far superior in complexity and difficulty than netrunner/agot/chtullhu/etc.

i guess it the gameconcept. we gave the coreset another try last evening in bigger group and after playing l5r with this guys nobody felt like diggin' into it. SADLY :(

I cannot agree, that what happens and can be done by some Invasion deck is real magic the number of options and possibilities is plenty (HE are current masters of combos, deck control and options, orcs are next). I was playing and so many many card games, I have more than 15 years of tournaments in Magic the Gathering and I can asure You that deckbuilded Invasion is far more complex and there are many builds even in one deck archetype for aech race. After core set comes 30 battlepacks and 3 box expansions that changes a lot from the beginning, trust me ;-) when I start to play Invasion I printed proxies of tournament decks and started right from the "real", deckbuilded play not just pure core set ;-)

I think part of this is the limited card pool in the core set and the fact that you don't have 3 of everything. I felt my early games were pretty inconsistent, but I can't say I felt the same as you do that whoever draws a unit wins. Our games were dominated by strong supports, since there is little support destruction in the early WHI sets. I played MTG for a long time and found this game to be much better. The ability to control your resources and draw speed, while balancing those against being able to attack your opponent, is my favorite part of WHI. I'm not sure what the deck size is in the core set, but I wouldn't use anything above a 40 card deck. By reducing the deck size, you can reduce the impact of having such a small card pool, and make the games more consistent. If you like the game at all, the Ulthuan expansion is a fantastic addition.

I also wouldn't use the core set's suggestion of randomly adding neutral cards. Figure out which decks work best with them and put them into logical places (Warpstone Excavation, Contested Village, and Innovation are all quite strong and can help out the weaker starter decks)

I agree, without elves the game is incomplete. I can also suggest use "proxies" or buy second core set to have important cards x2 and 2 sets of warpstone excavationa and contested village. Also legends are great addition to the game with many useful cards and what is important - all x3.

Assault on Ulthuan expansion cards - http://deckbox.org/games/whi/cards?s=e&o=d&f=436

Legends expansion cards - http://deckbox.org/games/whi/cards?s=e&o=d&f=4319

if You will be satisfied and like neutral factions Lizardmen & Undead, March of the Damned should be next:

wont buy anything on first market, only auctions on ebay. i am not sure about this game and wont spend money on that….

maybe that is an essence - if You won't spend more money on Invasion than 1 core set… hmmm there are better choices, better games.

Invasion is LCG and really great game when You have plenty of cards, plenty of options and some organized tournaments to participate, if don't…

You already know the answer. I can suggest You Rune Age + Oath and Anvil if You want complex card game without many expansions… or maybe 2 core sets of Netrunner ;-)

you get me wrong. i would buy every single expansion and pack, if i would be sure ill like the game. but at the moment it isnt good gaming experience and i am not sure it will get much better…. thats why :D
