Skeletal Horde

By alboy, in Runebound

l am fairly new to this game, when l fight the Skeletal Horde (Yellew card) its says Melee, if you fail a Melee combat roll you receive -2 penalty to all attack rolls this combat & this penalty accumulates with each failed Melee combat roll.

Does this mean you do a Melee check at the start of each combat round if you keep failing & then fight as normal with a -2 penalty each time.

Or does it mean you only lose -2 when you fight the Melee round & lose.

Do the -2 penalty effect combat for a Ally as well.

Can an Ally fight the Melee at all or is it just restricted to your Character.

l hope you can understand all of this.

l did check in search but gave up as it mentions every game of FFG's.

You take a -2 at combat rolls every time you fail a roll in the Melee Phase of combat round. Penalties are cumulative.

Cards are usually more specific about the character affected (Hero or Ally). In this case there's no proper wording and I would say that if you lose in the Melee Phase (doesn't matter if with the Hero or an Ally), everybody (Hero and Allies) receives -2 on all Combat rolls.

Try to see the Skeletal Horde as a swarm of skeletons. If you fail to push them back in the Melee Phase, they surround you and gradually crush you and you Allies to the ground (card has something like this in the text), making the struggle more difficult also if you use magic or ranged attack.

Thanks again Warlock. l see what you are saying & it all seems reasonable doing it that way.
