Deck advice needed

By iNocturno, in Strategy and deck-building

Hello All,

I am a novice to the world of the LCG but am pretty excited of the Lord of the Rings LCG. I bought the core set recently and can’t stop playing since?. However, I should admit that have been struggling with the game with very limited success. Now I have the core set, Khazad Dum expansion and the first two decks of the Dwarrowdelf cycle but still could not beat the more difficult scenarios.

I have completed only the Return to Mirkwood scenario. Now I’m playing Into the Pit and Journey through the Anduin River with varying success. I’ve tested a couple of custom-made decks and one or two that I have seen on the net but victory escapes me still.

Below you could see my most recent deck. Any advice on how to improve it will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Gimli/Gloin/Bifur

Hero (3)
Bifur (KD) x1
Gimli (Core) x1
Gloin (Core) x1

Ally (25)
Bofur (TRG) x3
Longbeard Map-Maker (CatC) x2
Bombur (RtR) x2
Beorn (Core) x1
Daughter of the Nimrodel (Core) x3
Erebor Record Keeper (KD) x3
Gandalf (Core) x3
Miner of the Iron Hills (Core) x2
Veteran Axehand (Core) x3
Veteran of Nanduhirion (KD) x3

Attachment (12)
Citadel Plate (Core) x2
Dwarrowdelf Axe (KD) x3
Forest Snare (Core) x2
Narvi's Belt (KD) x3
Steward of Gondor (Core) x2

Event (15)
A Test of Will (Core) x2
Hasty Stroke (Core) x2
The Galadhrim's Greeting (Core) x2
Ancestral Knowledge (KD) x2
Khazad! Khazad! (KD) x3
Lure of Moria (RtR) x2
Sneak Attack (Core) x2

If I was playing this deck, I would be a little worried about not drawing Narvi's Belt. Yes you have three copies of it, but if it doesnt come up, then your six Spirit cards are completely useless as you don't have the resource to use them. Also, even with the belt, if the character doesn't have the resources at the time, you still couldnt play them. Even then, since the belt only gives you the resource icon for the phase and not the round, you wouldnt be able to stop both a 'When Revealed' effect and a 'Shadow' effect, since those would come into play in separate phases.

I'm not saying to drop them completely, just that I would be worried. If you buy some of the Mirkwood cycle you can get some of the Song cards that will give you other resource icons which might be helpful in this siutation, especially since they arent unique like the belt.

Hope that helps! :)

I count nine cards (Bofur).

@Nocturno

Other than that, why Beorn and not Gondorian Spearman (I know you are playing solo), but before you put Beorn, you have more oportunities to play Gondorian Spearman.

And since you don't have, exception on Steward of Gondor, cards that give you resources, you should get the cost of your cards to the minimum. Or try and use Zigil Miner (attention that this card has been errated)

One more question: you say you have Core, Khazad-dum expansion, Redhorn Gate and Road to Rivendel, but you name a quest from Shadows of Mirkwood cycle (Return to Mirkwood scenario) and have a card that belongs to Conflict at the Carrock (Longbeard Map-Maker)

So if you have those, you should use Boots from Erebor (a must have in dwarven decks), Dunedain Warning is also a good choice, Durin's Song is also a good card..

Second Breakfast and Horn of Gondor can help you also. Timely Aid can help but is a bit expensive. Erebor Hammersmith is a good card to get some attachments that may have been discarded.

Doh! Forgot about Bofur.

Fair enough, you are right that I depend too much on Narvi’s Belt and if it doesn’t come up I will be in serious trouble. Until now I was lucky and have always drawn in pretty quickly, but you are right I have to consider some other options.

@CJMatos

To be honest, I have never included Beorn in my decks until this moment. It is too expensive for my taste and it is not something you could not go without. For this deck, though I wanted to have a fighter, different than my heroes that I could rely on when something tougher appears. I would prefer Erebor Battle Master instead or something like it but I don’t have it.

My mistake. I meant Passage Through Mirkwood. Yes, I have a couple of card I bought individually including Longbeard Map-Maker.

Where do you buy cards individually?

Through ebay. This far I found only one seller 'mrbrave1'.
