I'll be there if I can get a handle on Vassal by then. I don't want to be the guy slowing everything down just because I don't know what I'm doing.
Is there any prize support ?

Don't worry about slowing people down. Most people will be fairly new to playing Vassal, and others those who have more experience will understand.

No prize support. No entry fee. The Vassal extension is still fairly new and so is AFM. So we wanted to give it a real test in a tournament environment. Hopefully we can get a good sized turnout. We plan on running more Vassal tournaments in the future though. So if you can't make this one, there will be others.

Aaaaah! I'm busy that Saturday! I'm super stoked for participating in some future tournament, though. But have you guys read up on the problems with the Vassal mod? The proportions of the bases and maneuver templates are a little off. Firstly, in this game, the number for each straight maneuver corresponds to the number of bases it would take to move your ship. So a straight 2 moves your ship 2 bases forward. Here's the deal, the bases in the current Vassal mod have little black rectangles in front and back that correspond to the guides on the bases. Now, these black rectangles are surrounded by grey base, making it appear that the black part is still part of the base. If you line up the maneuver template with the black rectangle but don't overlap the black guides with the template, the ship base is too big, so a template moves you less than the given number of bases. According to Parakitor, if you insert the guide into the black part on the base, the lengths work out, but what that means is that the corners of the bases are not part of the base, even though it looks like they are, and since they're not delimited in any way, it'd be extremely difficult to determine whether ships are touching or not. Maybe the mod will be fixed by then, maybe not. Parakitor and I are seeing what we can do about this, but between grad school and families, time is scarce.
I've heard all the reports on the module, and there will be a Ver. 3.0 available with the week, well before the tournament that takes into consideration everything that was reported/requested.
(Everything you say?? I think so. Let's see, there was the Dice mods requested, rolling specific numbers, being able to re-roll specific dice, being able to move the dice rolled… CHECK! Movement & Precision issues, CHECK! Firing Arc concerns, investigated, fixed and CHECK! Friendlier Stress/Crit/Action markers, CHECK! Scale of things off, CHECK! Video tutorial of how to set up VASSAL and install modules, soon to be ckecked, Video tutorial/quick intro to the module, possible check. Written directions/quick reference maybe…)
Anyway, the Tournament should be played with Ver. 3.0 Look for it on VASSALenging.org soon!

EDIT:
*Will be available with
in
the week. *Being able to roll a specific number
OF DICE
. lol. No, you won't be able to request a Crit on your next roll.
More on the dice
: MAN! was that a B…ear of an addition. OY! ANYway, You'll be able to roll from 1 to 5 dice (Atk or Def), and only see that number of dice. You'll be able to right-click an individual die and re-roll it (or click to select & hit Ctrl+V to re-roll it), you can even Shift-Click to select multiple dice and reroll them all with a Ctrl+V.
Aiden you are doing AMAZING work! Keep it up!

Yes he is!! I'm sending him some scans tomorrow that should help him complete Ver 3.0. I'm very psyched to see the changes!!

I'm bumping this to remind everyone about the tournament!!

I was helping beta test the new module today, and it was great. Much better than it had been previously in my opinion. We also noted a few things to improve upon which should make it even better. Aiden has done a great job, and you should all make a point of participating if you can. It should be a lot of fun.
Aiden, thanks for all your hard work on the Vassal Mod, I'm going to be too busy with Birthdays for my kids that I won't be able to make the event, but it sounds like a lot of fun, and I hope to be a part of it in the future.
If you plan on playing in the tournament, please come by AFM and register by posting in the tournament thread AND sending me a PM on AFM. V3.0 of the X-wing module should be out later this week. That is the version that we will be using in the tournament. If you have not played on Vassal before, then I suggest you get a few games in before the tournament. If this tournament does well, then I'll we'll probably run one every month.
Please come by and signup soon.
