Thorin Company (very powerful dwarf allies deck)

Hey Glaurung do you have a companion dwarf deck to go with it? I tried this deck on my own the other day and quite enjoyed it as it was a more risky style of playing than I'm used to. Anyhow, my friend and I were looking at doing the whole hobbit saga from beginning to end with dwarves (or dwarfs as Tolkien would have it) so I was just wondering if you had a deck to go with it? I have built a Dwalin, Gimli, Thalin deck but I feel it needs work on it…

Yes i also want to make 2 dwarfs decks to go trough all hobbit story and i tyr build up 2 dwarfs decks but…….quicly i realise if you wonna build up 2 strong dwarfs deck both players must use lore. Cose advantage of errebot hammersmuth and Dwarfs of the iron hill is to obvious.

I suggets use Bombur( amazing hero! after you will try him you will love him) Ori and Oin deck as a companion for Thorin Company deck.. Kind of lore/Spirit with a taktics splash. Should to work quite well.

thanks for the reply glaurung. hmmm… hadn't thought about going Lore across both decks sounds interesting though! The problem I have will be convincing my mate to use it because he's a stubborn tactics/spirit type who likes to bash things with dwarven axes and lots of other attachments, so I kind of built the Gimli, Thalin, Dwalin one with him in mind. However, I'll defo give it a go and try to convince him that with oin's effect he cud get his tactic fix still… keep us updated if u build one glaurung lol

Just add Gloin ally from Hobbit second box to this deck. Now this deck even more powerful then before. Cruch every quest no problem.

Dol-Guldor is only 1 problem and Rhosgobel a bit (add 3 Healings herbs and is done). But Dol-Guldor big problem.

Thiking about errata……… Legacy of Durin is crazy overpower. Should to get errata: when you play dwarf charachers from your hand you can Exhaust Legacy of Durin to draw 1 card. Other wise in the deck where is 80% of cards is dwarfs allies is simple mean: play card to draw card.

We are not idle cry for errata as well. To many powerful cards in this deck is uber broken.

Please stop using the word "errata." It's profane. :) Seriously though, if you think something is too powerful for what you're doing, then you should house rule it. Demanding the designers to do it to the detriment of everyone else is just, well, annoying to those of us who think the cards are fine the way they are. I still haven't decided if I am going to play by the errata of all the cards already raked over the coals. Errata just confuses people who play the cards the way they're printed. If FFG wants to release new updated versions of the cards then I am fine with that. Wouldn't mind to see a "Player's Set" of all the cards that have been released in expansions. Kind of stinks right now that we have to buy a second set of cards, half of which are rendered useless upon purchase, to get a second set of certain player cards that my wife and I could each use in our respective decks. EDIT - Sorry for the long paragraph but apparently this software hates Windows 8 as much as I do. It won't let me hit the enter key…

Okay, this is better. Good ol' Windows 7. :)

I updated your updated deck.

Hero (3)

We Are Not Idle (SaF) x3
A Very Good Tale (OHaUH) x3

I'd really like to fit Durin's Song in here, but I'm not sure what I would cut to do that. I thought about cutting 1 of each of the zero-cost Leadership event cards, but frankly those cards are too good with what this deck does. I can see putting the Durin's Song in when running against Numenor quests, but that's about it. Otherwise, the Map-Maker can quest his way to victory all by himself. I've had a couple of games where I was down by 7 in WP versus Threat, but ended up winning by 5 or 6, lol. Between Gloin, SoG, and We Are Not Idle, I never run out of tokens. I like the Belt over the Song because I can use it to gain Spirit or Tactics. You never know when that might come in handy…

I've just played through the whole saga in a 2P game using basically the above deck and a Gimli, Thalin, Dwalin weapon-attachment heavy deck. Was great fun… Beat every quest on the first attempt except flies and spiders and battle of the five armies, which took a couple of attempts each time. Having played 8 games with the above deck, I would definitely swap out a very good tale for durin's song… I think I got A Very Good Tale to work well about twice throughout all the games and my partner agreed. It's easy enough to get allies in play anyway and you just can't anticipate what you're gonna draw because it asks you to shuffle. Was especially frustrating discarding my good cards like sneak attack and steward of Gondor for no return cos my bad luck doesn't let me draw any of my allies! On another note, I found Lure of Moria the most useful card throughout the saga… I always felt loads better when I had that in my hand and it was effective everytime it was used

Just got the nightmare sets and play couple of games. I really dissapointed with nighnmare cards……….Many if them is just crazy stupid! Is crazy difficult to play against it bit there is less fun cose most of the nighmare cards is stupid in my opinion. But still yoy can use them in all mirkwood cycle quest to make it more difficult. For example Carrock can be rock now with some cool nighmare cards there.

Here is one more video with this deck against Dungeon Deep and Caverns Dim. I add Gloin ally in this deck and he work perfect.

Just watched your shadow and flame video. Excellent. One question. When you move to the second scenario card you put 4 progress tokens down. I thought once the progress tokens are placed on the first quest card that the quest phase was over, and that the rear guard quest card's text would not trigger until next round. Not sure on the timing of this. Not that it mattered much to the victory, but want to make sure I'm playing it right. It would make it a tad bit easier for some of my decks.

I guess the way I played it was the quest phase is over once the first quest card is cleared, but I guess i was simultaneously ending the the phase with the completion of the quest, and hence ended the phase too early. Thanks for the clarification.

Here one more video Against Passage thrugh MIrkwoow (Nighmare version):

The PTM is not really difficult( maybe 5-6) but JDTA is crazy(looks like difficult 8-9 now)! Not possible solo at all.

Dol-Guldor i think looks like difficult 10 or 12. Still didn try but i hope will try with my friend this weekend.

Some nightmare cards is crazy poweful! like location 10 thead 10 progess points. If you get this card in begin you lost a game……For solo is impossible for sure.

How do you manage JDtA with a starting threat of 31. I played this deck 3 times against the scenario, and only time I won was with Gandalf/sneak attack in opening hand, and almost lost due to treacheries in the end. The other games I did not make it past the 3rd round the hill troll was too much to handle first round. Threat all so skyrocketed quickly.

This is no problem. Yes troll coming on the first turn and Dain can defence. After you will have so many allies and Gandalf can come too so you suppose quickly deal with him.

Nighmare versoin of JDTA yes is almost impossible to win with this deck solo. I won only one time from 10.

Yesterday we play with my friend coop game against nightmare version of JDTA. HE play Thorin company and i play Legolas/Beregond/Eleanor figh- cancel effect deck. We play 4 games. 2 of them very long and win only 1. On the stage 3 i was eleminated from the game but dwarves can do agaisnt 6 or 7 enemies include Hill troll, March Adder and other ones. Very tough game we won but with really big struggle!

I know I am pretty late to the party, but I just recently started with this game and would like to get into playing with the dwarves. So I would appreciate anyone being so kind to post me an up to date version decklist of the Thorin's company deck with the currently available cardpool. On cardgamedb I only found an updated list with 49 player cards and I think it was more then 12 months old.

Thank you in advance,

Puppen

With the dwarf decks, you don't really need an updated deck. Not much has come to really help dwarves much in the past year or more, so don't worry about only seeing old decks. It should still be quite powerful.

Blue Mountain Traider is new and in many eyes OP but I will agree with you. My Thorin Oin Dain deck has remained the same since the Hobbit Boxes and I still feel no need to change it with all the new cards that have come out since.

Alternatively, if you want dwarves, you could try this deck of mine which beats pretty much everything.

I will take a look into those decks and try them out to see which fits me (read: my playstyle) most - so thanks everyone! :)

Any updates to this deck with the current card pool?

There is some new cards can be used for this deck for sure! I dont play this deck for a while. Boring… there is a lot of new decks around. However Thorin company is still cool very powerful deck even now

Have you considered an aggro version of a dwarven deck? I was thinking that could make dwarves feel new (less ally focus, etc).

Gimli would make a nice addition, even if just 1 copy.

You can try my 2 complentary dwarf decks. They are updated to catch up with new card pool, but the main thought while building them was theme, so no steward or secret vigil. They are especially constructed for Hobbit saga quests and Dwarrowdelf cycle.

And of course when Gimli comes up, you should swap 2 copies with 2 Longbeard Orc Slayers.

They are really powerfull as dwarves always are.

Thanks - not really a two-handed player. Way too much to manage at once!
