I got my first unit of german battle grenadiers and I'm already fully busy in painting them but looking at the other german infantry units i noticed they all have a bare stahl helmet, there doesn't seem to any troop that were a fieldcap or a stahlhelm with cloth over it, does anybody know a way to acquire such items as I don't want my germans to look exactly the same.

West Wind Games' SOTR line and heads from the plastic Boltaction and Wargames Zone worked well for me.

You could paint the seams of a cover on or lines to represent a mesh net.

Alternatively you could apply a very thin layer of putty and press in some fine cloth texture, then paint.

A piece or two of thread soaked in superglue or white glue, laid across the helmet could also add the look of a seams.

Secret Weapon minis sells some German style heads with gas masks.

FRPGAMES.com has the Seperate HEad system. They have some good choices.
