I love TI3 and its expansion. Note the singular. Are there any plans for more expansions? Granted, the way it is now, it takes two hours to set up the game and half an hour to put everything back into the box... still, I'd love more races and special abilities. Even our homebrewn Quantum Cannons and Battlestations don't do the trick any longer...
Dead?
I think I'd but a box with only new races and home systems, another thing I'll buy, is a re-ballance of the races (like most custom games we got).
Old forums lots of Kewl ideas and special things, get em beor it dies or get spamed ful of anger.
Regarding the seting up packing get boxes that fites into the ti3 main box.(bought mine at a lookal harware store ) saves down packing to 10 min and setup to 30 min
I don't really care if another expansion get produced or not. Of course if they do, I will buy it, but the game as it is, is pretty awesome. The game doesn't need more things that makes it more complex, but it would be cool with things like scenarios and new races.
I would love an expansion that contains more races, but other than that the game is pretty complete for me since SE. (not that I won't buy another expansion )
What I'm thinking of is light on new rules, but helps organize the game
I'd like to see added colors of ships from the base set if new rules were added. Enough to be a color for every race. Then I'd just match up colors and race, have a small box of each players starting units for each game, and save probably 10 minutes of setup. Every lttle bit counts :-).
A set board that goes under placement would help for the 4 and 5 player games so there's less questions in setup.
An objective and point counter setup sheet would be nice too. I use custom things of my own for my games.
I never played the old game but I hear about the assassins a lot. I wonder if that would be nice to have.
A new expansion would rock!
Although it needs something new, just to add that extra bit too it. Something more than just new races, etc. A new game mechanic or something like that.
Any ideas?
Of note - for those who have small children (or just love strained peas) the plastic gerber baby food containers are perfect for holding one race worth of Counters, Leaders, planet cards, trade contracts, and racial tech. There are 2 sizes - one just a bit smaller than the other. Both are useful. I use the smaller to hold the race counters, and the larger to hold dice, mines, bonus counters, etc. I'm able to organize both expansions worth of stuff into the original game box using these.
It's more tidy for play than zip loc bags, more easily distributable than plano boxes, and at about $1.00 for two, the price is great even if you don't have a baby in the house. If you have to eat to get to your box, I recommend the Applesauce and/or the carrots.
If I remember correctly, FFG got the rights to the classic "Dune" boardgame, and are republishing with some rules updates and setting the game in the Twilight Imperium universe. Why not use the original Frank Herbert Dune world? Well, as I understand it, the Herbert Estate is not granting any liscensing on games to the Dune property and likely such liscensing would drive the price up by a significant degree.
So! Hopefully this project is still on the slate. Might not be a new TI expansion, but it is keeping the setting fresh and might be an awesome companion game!
Lothar of the Hill People released a Fan-variant of exactly that. It was much fun.
Races/Planets etc all were taken from the Dune Universe.
Hmmm what about another game in the twilight universe? Like a miniatures game (at the moment no real Spacebattle miniature game on the market), or a game thats based more on micromanagement (your own planet), etc. ?
Maybe an expansion with new unit types - a new starship and perhaps tanks. I'd also like to see new types of space hexes, such as one containing a dyson sphere, another with an orbital ring (like those in Consider Phlebas), and maybe a new red-bordered hexe (black hole or star cluster . . . .).
Ideas for expansion
1. A new deck that gives random events at status.
2. Specialty planets can be exhausted for a command counter or an action card.
3. More choices for your Racial tech.
4. Premade maps, perhaps with 1 or 2 turns done already.
So ...here is what I don't get, most people that have and like the game already state that they would buy just about any expansion that FF puts out. So what is the big delay??
I personally love the game and am happy with it as is but would still love to have some "extras" to add color, keep it fresh, and spend $ on.
I would be happy to see a few new races, new planets - revamps on old planets, new distant suns, objectives, PCs, and ACs also some new units would just flippin rock....please oh please FF toss us TI3 lovers a bone
I'm not sure about a new expansion. New races - why? There are plenty enough. If, then new factions, but not races. It's bull to assume that every race fights united for the goal of proposing an emperor.
New rules? Yeah, there could be some. Look at PsiComas "Shattered Ascension", and you know what I mean. They could take it right away and print the stuff for it.
I'd certainly like to see some new material - anything really. Hopefully FFG will see this and put some resources into it
I as well would grab any expansion FFG would release for this without a thought.
AN excellent game that I'd love to see what else they do with it.
I'd buy an expansion if it was just a revised rule book and updated versions of the race sheets and cards. This is one of my favorite games but it is in desperate need of some revision.
I would love just a small deck that would include a couple more racial techonlogies and plz some racial objectives. They would just make all the differnce in the world in my opinion...
Honestly I don't see what else you could put into the game as it is awesome already and had a LOAD of options between the main game and the expansion. Other than maybe some card expansions or new space tiles and some new ship types I don't really see what else is needed? The game is pretty hefty as is and takes a gaming night of playing.
I think it would be a sweet addition that each race has a "special forces" unit. And they can cause rebellions on other non-home world planets through event cards, etc. I would love to see a new expansion maybe with some new units or even race specific units and ships, like... one flagship per race. And how cool would it be if each race had a personality?! Like if the Emirates of Hacan didn't receive X amount of trade good there would be a penalty, or if the Federation of Sol didn't invade a planet they had to exhaust X amount of resources the next round! What kind of new units would you like to see?
I am also interested in new races and Home Worlds. Variety is fun.
It may seem silly, but I want additional colors of ships. Whole sets, like was done for Shattered Empire. Perhaps a set of light blue, white, army green, pink. I'd pay for them and it's got to be just a matter of reusing the existing molds.
One of things we did to help with speeding up the game was to provide a complete set of dice for each player. Then we realized it would be awesome if the dice colors matched the ships colors. So now we have 8 sets of colored dice. Very cool looking. For example, the player that gets Yssaril Tribes almost always chooses the green ships and green dice now just because it looks cool. Just a fun thing we started doing to "trick out" our game.

I think the biggest hassle is the economic viability of releasing another expansion for TI3. Many events are contained in action cards, like forcing the rebellion of a non-home system etc. How much extra chrome can we have? I'd personally adore to have the Dune variant (which I have electronically from BGG) but how much better would it really make things?
TI3 plus SE is a hell of a lot of gaming; believe me!!! Try an 8 player game. It's insane!
I would gladly buy a new expansion to TI3, no matteer what it contained, really. New races, new cards, new plastic. Necessary or not I would be overwhelmed by the sheer shiny.
One thing that would make a huge, revolutionary difference for me, however, would be a new set of rules and components to help create a "save game" like RtL did for Descent. I think my group(s) would play TI a lot more if it didn't involve booking whole days off work to schedule a 12 hour marathon game. =)

On BoardGameGeek, I made a worksheet to allow players to "save" their game. I should probably go back and update it for Shattered Empire, though. It's in the file section of the base Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition entry.
