Tourney of Stahleck

By thorondor, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

due to some unforseeable circumstances this years Tourney of Stahleck will NOT take place from 12-14 june (as unofficially announced already)

i would like to ask you now, what time is best to have an event like this. imo autemn (a weekend in october) wouldnt be that bad. not much to do during this season of the year, people arent going on holidays. its cold and raining outside, so sitting together for some AGOT fun within strong castle walls is a good idea, isnt it?! (and we can have a special Winter is Coming tourney outside in the courtyard)

so to all that might be interested in this, please tell us what you think about it.

Fall could be good (I heard that the Rhineland is really beautiful then) . The only suggestion is to avoid the end of October , it's usually the time for 'Lucca Comics and Games' (as far as I know the biggest Italian game fair / con) , in 2008 it was held from October 30 to November 2.

I'm planning to attend both, if I only can manage

I were Intersetet in AGoT, but I have no cards.

I will bay the AGoT LCG Core set. It would be good, when it gives a LCG only Format.

October is a good time in general. But there´s also always the Essen game fair around the weekend of the 20th or so October, so it should be in early October, which is also a nice time - indian summer along the river rhine.

@Tiziano: I´m glad you are planning to attend at the castle of stahleck, but never tell a person living near the river rhine that october is the best time of the year a long the rhine- he will definetely answer that the best time is in the fifth season - now- today is Carnival monday. ;-)

I agree with Ben that October is good choice overall. Especially early October. I hope that I'll be able to convince players in our metas to attend such an traditional tournament. Especially due to the fact that we weren't being able to attend last summer. Now it seems in better perspective :)

And what about a late September rather then early October?

And what will be the main format to play there?

I stand corrected, Ser.

Hope you had a great last day of carnival. ;-)

You bet, i had. ;-)

@Rozy: Late september might be as good as october, i don´t know if it´s possible to book the castle for that time - Thorondor is doing the organization stuff.

The last years there was a peasant tourney and a classic highlander on friday, a standard tourney and a booster draft on saturday and a team match (not a melee) on sunday.

Most of the players ( i know from) in germany and austria are still playing standard format (ITE+ ) so i guess that will be the main tournament. I would suggest that every player willing to attend could vote for a format to guarantee that every player has a fair chance to participate at least in one tournament with a fitting deck ( of course you can play an LCG deck in standard but that might not be a good idea in the end).

If there a only a few LCG players other players could also share one of their decks - i usually have 2-3 competive tournament decks to play one at a time. So this might also be a solution.

September or October both is possible for me.

the only possible date for stahleck 09 is 11-13. dec

now maybe this is not a good date for many of us, because christmas is quite close (for me its no problem).

so my question to all that might be interested: would you still be coming when the event take splace during this weekend?

oh, december is way too far away, and at that time there is going to be even ITE block rotated out, so it wil be kind of harder too :)

Ummmh, i agree it´s a long time till december. In general I don´t think it would be a problem for me to attend at the tourney anytime of the year, because it´s less than a 2 hour drive for me to get there, but i can´t say if i could make it for the whole weekened.

A date later in the year could be however a good idea. The usual ITE block rotation would be in summer and so the format in december might be almost LCG only in favor for new players which like to attend to the tourney.

I haven't played since I moved to Brussles in January, and I really don't know whether I will have interest to play in December, but the date itself shouldn't be problem. The closeness of Christmas wouldn't bother me.

@morbiczer: Good that you´ve found your way back to the boards and hopefully to the game. ~You´ll have to play in december, i need a teammate or two and since Gleb and Eddi did such an embarrassing performance last time.... cool.gif

It's a pity that the Cologne meta disappeared a few years ago, because otherwise I could go there sometimes to play.

@morbiczer

Nice to here from you. I hope to see you and Akos at the Austrian Nationals 26. - 28. 6.

@Seznal

I don't think I'll make it to the Austrian Nationals this year. I'm based in Brussels now, so getting to Salzburg is a little more difficult. Plus I have something to do that weekend in Budapest if I can make it there at all.

@Old Ben

Sorry for replying you here to your mail, but I simply can't find out how to send you a personal message or an email through this forum software. (I absolutely hate this "new" system.)

However I would definately be interested in your offer. Please drop me an email on nagydavidka (at) hotmail (dot) com, so that we can discuss the details.
