Boulders vs. Breath ability

By Morthe, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Can I use Breath ability through the boulders?

Rules say: "Boulder block line of sight and are treated as a wall for purposes of blocking LoS, attacks, and movement". So the boulders are like a wall and I can not attack with using Breath.

But I think boulders are more like a rubble than like a wall. And through a rubble I can attack with Breath.

So what do you think which variant is correct? Rules or logic?

I always try to follow what someone's (can't remember who) signature used to be:

LOGIC+DESCENT = MADNESS

So the rules are correct. If a boulder acts like a wall, then its a wall. Remember that Breathe attacks "billow" around obstacles like walls, so its entirely possible for a 2x2 boulder to be at the part of the Breathe template where its 3 squares wide, and still hit the Heroes who might be advancing right behind the boulder. So you can still do the attack, its just going to get partially blocked by the boulder. Depends where you are and what the dungeon area looks like.

And not be a meathead, but how would a boulder be more like rubble? Its a giant rolling ball of stone that fills up a 2x2 size area. Sounds a lot like a moving wall to me.

Did you see a movie "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom"? There was something like boulder in Descent ;) ... but you have right, boulders are like a wall (if it is logical or not).

I have no doubt that the trap was made after a late design night watching that movie.

Actually, it was in "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" opening sequence. After having replaced the golden idol Jones wanted to get with a bag of sand of the wrong weight, a serie of traps were sprung including a Dart Field first and a Boulder at the exit of the ruins. But, of course, being Indiana Jones, he had a great hand of Feat Cards and rolled some surges when needed to foil the plans of the OL. ;)indiana-jones-best-scenes1.jpg

And yet nobody mentions the quest called "Raiders of the Lost Temple"...

...don't tell me you missed that reference?
