Few Event Cards problem.

By BroLuk, in StarCraft

I got my SC: TBG (without expansion for now) few days ago. We played around 10 games till today. And I have few problems with rules.

First problem is about taking Event Card instead executing order. Let's says player was planning build a base on an empty planet. He is ready to do this (he got transport and units from previous round) so he puting Build Order. But another player who puts orders also on that planet. In Execution Phase it's come to this that this First Player units was anihilated and he got his last Build Order on planet without any his units. My question is: Does he still must take Event Card instead executing this order even this order is now useless since he can't build base what he was firstly planning to do?

And got few questions about Event Cards:

1. Some Event Cards, for example Air Support , says: Immediately gains the following units in one friendly or empty area. 1 free Wraith OR 1 free Mutalisk OR 1 free 1Scout. My questions about this type of cards is: Can I place this units on any empty area on any planet? Or only on planet where I have build base?

2. After point 8 of Regrouping Phase - Play Event Cards I've decided that I will play/keep for example card named Flawless Attack Plan . This card description says Place in your play area Discard at the start of a battle: In this battle, you gain +2 attack in each skirmish. Should I reveal this type (giving advantage during battle) of cards for all players or just place them in my place aread without showing it to anyone ?

As long as a player is not eliminated, he may ALWAYS choose to draw an event from an order, even if it's a useless order (good decoy too, that)

For your other questions:

1. Newly made units are made on planets you have a base on.

2. You always reveal all events you have at regrouping phase, and stay revealed until you use it.

He doesn't have to take an Event Card, he can still execute the order normally. However, since he doesn't have any units or bases on the planet, he can't build anything. Note that every single part of the build order description starts with "May" - so you can choose to execute the build order instead of taking an event card, and for every point of the build order, opt not to do anything.

In most cases it will be better to take the Event Card of course, but in phase 3 when you don't want to end the game just yet, this might really make sense.

(Edit: Maybe I misunderstood your question - yes, it's always possible to choose the event card option, even if the order is useless if executed normally.)

You can place it anywhere, on any planet, as long as the area is empty. It's particularly useful for annoying people who didn't place troops on their "protected planet"'s areas. Keep in mind that an area containing a base or (Brood War) installation is not considered empty. If a further restriction would exist, it would be stated somewhere.

StarCraft has very little hidden information, stuff placed in your play area is placed face-up. And can later be stolen by others, for example with the Event Card "Informant". I haven't seen this written explicitly anywhere when reading through the rulebook, but it would be odd if this case of "place in play" would be different from other things that are "placed in play", like "The End Draws Near" cards or various techs.

Hm, did I miss something there? I was fairly certain the event card allowed you to place the units in any empty area, but maybe I overlooked something again?

Thanks for answers guys. haslo u understood my question correctly. That I want to know. But I'm still not sure with question number 1 coz your answers was diffrent. And this is still confusing problem. I was thinking that is possible to put units from Event Card anywhere coz you can build new units on active planet (with active build order) where you have base already. In Regrouping Phase during step 8 there isn't any active Build Order when you are playing this card.

It just doesn't sound right the fact that a few flyers materialize out of nowhere near an enemy base.

With regards to the event cards that give you units, there is no restriction that says you have to place them on a planet where you have a base.

This is why you can place them in any empty region (or friendly for that matter too), even if you don't have any other units on that planet.

I don't think you are actually 'producing' these units at that time in the game. I think its like they were already in existence and are showing up in this area of the system after previous missions.

Now it would be different if its an event card that allows you do a build order or something like that. That would involve a base.

That means if I happen to recieve that event and my friend's hydralisk army is elsewhere, I can send a few flyers to take down my friend's base without a transport connecting to it?

Sounds mighty strange to me...

the event cards that give you plastics don't require a base or anything. The space you put them in just needs to be friendly or empty.

No, you can't, if your friend was smart enough to station a few units on his planet. If he left the areas entirely uncontrolled, the friendly pacifist Protoss settlement that his troops overlooked the last time they were there (if they ever were in the first place) might turn out to having gotten some flyer plans from somewhere. Keep in mind that a planet is an entire planet, not unlike the entire earth, so it's not really easy to monitor from the other side of the globe lengua.gif

Lucky I'm pressurising my friend too much he can't play his Guardian on my 2 Conquest Point planet guarded by two zealots (on two different areas). He had to protect his base.

Well, although Event cards should be placed faceup, I do reccomend a variant allowing you to hide specific Event Cards in your Play area until you use it. This really expands your possibilities to suprise your enemies.

So it seems you can play those reinforcement event cards on any empty area. Thanks for help.

I do agree it's kind of odd to pop up people at the other end of the galaxy! But let's just imagine they are special infiltrated commando forces who have the mission to blow up the ennemy base... just for scenario...

Well 1 of this Event Cards (1 stage if I'm correct) name is Scout Party. So this type of playing match to this card.

Actually there is at least 1 event card where units need to be placed in a friendly area.

The keywords being "Friendly" and "Empty". I forgot which event specifically but I know one time I wanted to drop a scout on a "empty" area by my friends base but noticed it was "Friendly" on the card. So just a FYI.
