HTML Based Squad Builder

By FarkonGnome, in X-Wing

Awesome! That was the only problem I saw.

The only suggestion for improvement (not necessary but perhaps would clean it up a bit, would be to make the non-unique, non-upgradable pilots have a dropdown or fill-in for selecting a number (like your Proton Torpedos) rather than a series of checkboxes.

That would not only make it look a little more streamlined but also allow for the possibility that someone was already playing above 100 point games with some insane number of TIEs, for example.

Thanks again!

Per a TON of requests:

  • The ability to use saved configurations

The process is sorta simple:

  1. make all the sections you want on the page
  2. at the top of the page, there is a ORANGE link, right click and choose COPY LINK LOCATION
  3. paste that link anywhere you want and it should let other people see your configuration.

If you run into any problems, let me know.

EDIT:

FYI: This does NOT directly work with IE, sorry folks.

IE FIX:
What you'll need to do is paste the URL string AFTER the "?" and put it into the top "Saved Configuration Options" box. From there you'll be able to see that saved configuration. IE has a limit of characters that can put into the URL stream and evidently I hit it with all the page options.

Very handy tool. Thanks for creating it.

Is it possible, in the text view, to display the points for each pilot/update?

That tool is badass. Thanks for your work on this.

Awesome work and have just used it to work out 2x 120pt forces for our next game. It could do with 1 mod for us beginners though and that is to add the craft your pilots are flying on the text print out.

In the Empire builder the Concussion Missiles are listed as costing 5 points when they should cost 4 points. (They correctly cost 4 points when clicked on, though.)

p.s. This site is awesome, well done. :)

i will fix this tomorrow and I'll add the ship they are flying to the text based printout.

I don't know how to describe this well, but sometimes when you click on astromechs and then unclick them to change your selection, the blackout of the box does not change properly.

yeah, it's a known issue. It unselects the entire column affecting possibly already blacked out checkboxes. I detailed that in the original post, it would be a major PITA to fix.

Sorry, overlooked your previous description. It doesn't affect the functionality.

This is not only very convenient for adults and fun to play with in making strategic builds, but it makes the process WAY easier when playing with children. It takes my boys an eternity to select a squad, but this streamlines it dramatically.

BUG FIX:

  • Concussion Missile value corrected

UPGRADE:

  • Added the ship they are piloting to the text based squad printout (it's listed below the pilot name) per user request

This is awesome, well done! Just a thought…any chance a moderator could sticky this page so it stays at the top? I'm sure quite a few players who join in the future will find this useful. And endless bumping is obnoxious. Or perhaps we could start a thread for "Useful Fanmade Tools" with links to this, perhaps the Vassal Mod someone is working on, etc, and get them to sticky that? I just think it's worthwhile, but perhaps that's just me.

My friends and I at the game store use this. Sometimes at work I need to let my mind rest for 10-15 minutes and this lets me daydream about options and is fantastic. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Thanks for providing these links. Lots of hard work gone into this!

Now you just need to turn it into an iPad app and sell it lots and lots of times :)

Very much appreciated indeed….even here on the other side of the pond (Germany)…Thumbs up!

Bump. We seriously need someone with sticky privileges around here.

And then get sued by FFG - No thanks.

Dude- this! Great way to burn a few minutes on my lunch hours.

Great job, Farkon! Mucho appreicado!!!

Dear FarkonGnome,

I would like to take a moment and extend my most sincere gratitude to you for your efforts in making an amazing little device. Your squad builder has almost single handedly changed my friend opinion about the game. With a tablet in his hand with your HTML Squad builder up on screen, he was able to quickly manipulate his squad, learn the cards and what they do, and above all else appreciate the strategic depth of squad building. He went from frustrated and unwilling to play, to appreciating the game's depth and asking me to come over an play. He skills are improving and he is becoming an engaging and worthy opponent.

Thank You

FarkonGnome, for your squad builder.

Hey Farging Little Guy, Thanks! Very nice tool to have.

I love this!! aplauso.gif This gives me hope of a "bloomilk" site for "x-wing" happy.gif

I really like your setup TY

Brilliant! Just, brilliant. Thanks for all your hard work.

Thanks so much for putting this together, and sharing it with the rest of it. It is really addictive to use, and useful.

Just curious, but with the spoiler for the Falcon being released, when might we expect for the Squad Builder to be updated? I for one would love to play test some of the new mechanics and that would definitely make my life easier. :)
