Opening Locked Doors?

By pashc1, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello all,

My apologies if this is an already answered question, but I can't find an answer.

Simply put, when there is a locked door on the map, such as in "The Cardinal's Plight," when the players find the rune key, can any player open the door, or is it just the player with the key?

Thanks for your assistance!

Haven't seen anything specific, however, there are latter quests that also have locked doors that state that any hero can open the door once the key is collected. There is no such mention in Plight, but then again, having seen the quest in action with the Overlord owning the heroes, I wouldn't mind allowing any of the heroes open the door once the key is collected.

Well, in the Quest Guide, it says:

"SPECIAL RULES"

"The locked door to the Library cannot be opened until the heroes find the Rune key ." (p.9)

"THE SECOND WAVE"

"When a hero first opens the door to the Library, read the following aloud: xxxxxx" (p.9)

In its written form, it suggest that only one of you have to find the key, and then the door can be opened.
In a thematic sense, think about it like this:

Why would the RUNE KEY have to be a normal key? Maybe its just a device that has to be removed from a specific point, in order to break a spell of some kind that blocks the door? The concept of a key is that it is an artifact spererate from its (in this case) door, and have to be used somehow to open it. The conceptual model makes it confusing, and they would've called it maybe the "Rune Stone" it wouldnt have been as confusing.

Only counter-point for me is that, like I said, some later quests specifically mention once the rune key is found, any hero can open the locked door the rune key is needed for.
