Command Deck I: Surprise Assault

By iceicebaby2, in Tide of Iron

Hi guys!

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I just can“t get behind this card. It says: "Immediately before your opponent takes an action, you may discard this card to take one action". To activate during Command Phase. Ok, I can understand the words, but have some problems with the meaning. Does it mean, that I can use this card to stop my opponent receiving command or victory points (or spending command) for one round?

I just wonder why this card is to be used during command phase and not during action phase.

Could anybody just give me a little hint to clarify that issue?

Many thanks!

The card is to be bought in the Command phase and put in the play area. From the play area it can be activated during an Action phase.

I think, I have to work through the manual again... :-)

Thank you!

Yes and moreover I would specify that only during an oponent's Action phase. There was an interesting answer to this question in one list of FAQs.

"If you play this card (you have it in your play area), then taken precisely, your opponent should ask you before each action in his turn if you want

to use this card not."

Because you can enter/interfere whenever in his X actions in his turn.

My question with this card is the following - can I react to an opponent's action with this card, or do I have to decide before the opponent declares his action? What I mean is can I wait for my opponent to say "I'm going to fire with that squad" and then reply "Oh no you won't, since I'm going to fire at him first"?

I'd say it's intended more like you stopping him before he's going to announce what he wants to do. As long as this card is in the play area, it's probably a good solution to agree with your opponent that he's always asking if you wanna use this card before he is taking any action.

I agree that that is proberly the intent of the designer. But it acutaly works well enough as an interrupt. So play it either way.
