Pits

The only action a hero can make from a pit is get out, but does the hero get his/her second action or is it like 'stand up' where they don't get another action once they 'get out' of the pit?

Page 18: "After performing one action to climb out of the pit, place the figure in the closest available empty adjacent space of the controlling player’s choice."

One action, not one turn. If you fell into the pit this turn when performing a Move as your first action, you can climb out as your second action. If you fell into the pit at the end of your last turn, you would still have one action left after climbing out.

If you can spend an action to climb out of a pit, can you spend an action to climb into the pit -- and avoid the 2 damage for falling in?

I was wondering this same thing. I've been using ettins as the overlord to push heroes back and put them in lava or pits. And a raging debate is that if the ettin gets to hurl a hero, does the overlord get to choose where they land or the hero?

Based on the wording of Throw, the OL gets to choose. My reading is that throwing someone in a pit causes 3 total damage, while throwing them into lava does 2. They need to move out of the lava before the end of their turn or are defeated.
