If I remember correctly, current theory is Star Trek, not Star Wars. Warp drive, not hyperdrive.

Yep, because Star Trek came up with a plausible idea for FTL whereas Hyperdrives (Asimov, Niven, Star Wars, etc…) don't really have a basis to work from.

Warp Drive - Alter space by compressing it in front of the ship (using some form of gravity/graviton generator) then allow it to relax/stretch back out at/behind the ship. The ship isn't actually traveling at relativistic speeds, so doesn't suffer time compression/dilation effects. Or so the Star Trek idea went.

The link actually says warp drive so I think they are rooting around in the right pen.
