I'm in LOVE with this system…..

By Sutter2, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beta

As already mentioned, I LOVE this system. As a matter of fact, I love how the rules play as originally written and so, I won't be changing much at all.

I'm totally beyond excited about the next two installments, especially "Force and Destiny". That one should be seven kinds of epic awesome! And here's looking forward to ALL the supplements and sourcebooks for each one.

AWESOME!!!!!

(I know, I Know…..I already posted this in the "General Discussion" section of the Beta Testing area, but I figured it's so awesome that I should post it here too.)

You are allowed to skip through town twirling on light poles and proclaiming your love.

BUT no singing….I mean it.

I think a lot of FFG products get that reaction, once you get past that steep learning curve. I did the same with X-Wing and Game of Thrones LCG. :)

Not even if it's raining?

Yeah, I am really loving it too and I have not even run anything yet. I am seriously thinking of using it as a basis to other kinds of campaigns (no Star Wars) also.

Can't say no to a bit of FFG love. :D Especially with regards to the amazing work they've done on this RPG.

Once again: kudos, FFG.

Yup, easily the best system I've ever played. Definitely in line with my GM'ing style (fast-paced, cinematic, player-driven story, low on crunch, etc…).

I wouldn't even say the learning curve is all that steep. We ran through some sample skill and combat checks while we were creating characters last night, and the two players who knew nothing of the system picked it up pretty quickly.

I've got to say I'm all in with this system!

Ran my first session last night, only 2 of my 4 players, but I was dying to run it, so we went ahead and did it anyway.

Char. creation only took about an hour, (being unfamiliar with the rules) I can easily cut that time down now that I've dont it before.

It ran smooth and cinimatic. Players with no refrence, what so ever, took to the dice like it was second nature.

Even with only 1/2 of the party, they rolled enough Advantages to make it thru the first test combat very well. Love the system and can't wait till next week to keep running the story, with the erratta changes.

I have been thinking the same thing for another Scifi/Fantasy World that I love that doesn't have a current system available for it. I have been thinking of getting the WFRPG Core Set to see how magic is handled.

Yeah, I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing. I have at least 2 other settings I want to explore. Old west and my Fantasy/Lovrcraftian campaign that i have run on and off for years. I was also thinking though I might just wait for more force jedi stuff when that book comes out. Then just rearrange stuff, but the idea of peeking at a copy of WFRPG came to mind too after several people discussed it on this forum.

If you love the system, WFRP3 offers indeed a very similar experience in a Fantasy world. You could take WFRP3 rules and use them in any Fantasy world. As for the magic, WFRP3 has 8 colors, but you can easily rename them as you wish (necromancy, druidism, demonism, etc…).

I would recommend however to get the Player's Guide & a set of customer dice instead of the Core Set, especially if you wish is to use the system in another Fantasy world. The Core Set doesn't give you access to all of the magical colors, while the Player's Guide do.

I've actually been thinking about using this system to convert one of my long standing favourite worlds, with one of my least favourite set of rules. Some of you may be familiar with it. "Fissures" from "Atomic Element 46" books.

LoL. I actually looked "Atomic element 46" in google before I realized what game you were talking about.

I never played Rifts, but I had a group of friends in the 90s I played Palladium Fantasy with. There is stuff in that game I do not fully understand to this day. I think it goes without saying… I have not GMed this system. LOL.

Heh.. yeah, the whole "atomic element 46" thing became a bit of a joke amongst me and my friends, especially in regards to that companies draconian policies with anything mentioning it. Regardless it is system that really shows it's age.. and not so much like a fine wine or scotch, but that old one-eyed three-legged squirrel you see around the neighbourhood. But, I have fond memories of the world. Not the system.

But, this is what I love about the system. It has a cinematic feel that could be used for so much. The Beta itself could be used to run a Firefly campaign, a Modern setting game, fantasy, or… a Superhero game (nudge nudge FFG)

I have to say that I was working on my own system - what RPG player doesn't? - but it fell by the wayside when I heard about this, and started reading about it. It has all the things I want. Story driven focus, easy mechanics, and the ability to do something useful, even if you fail (which for someone like me who seems to only roll between 1 and 7 on a d20, is a huge thing). I find I want to convert other systems and settings to this. I want to go back to creating my own setting using this system.
