Unattaching Griff

By doulos2k, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Over at CGDB.com, someone asked a question about Griff that got me to thinking about specifically at which point Griff would unattach in the following scenario:

  1. Griff dies due to Valar Moghulis and becomes moribund
  2. The controller already controls fewer attachments than each opponent

What got me twisted was that he doesn't physically attach as an agenda until after the passive window has, well, passed (and his return to play text is a passive).

Assuming there are no player actions prior to the plot phase ending, my assumption is that he unattaches during the passive step in the "Plot Phase Ends" framework window. And, if there were player actions, he would unattach during the passive of the player actions window?

Or am I overthinking this?

Aaah… progress. Yay! Thanks, as always, ktom.

Wait, he doesn't instantiate his own action window?

I gotta reopen this thread..

So assuming he dies for Military Claim and the player does not possess more attachments than his opponents.

When will Griff unattach? And is he able to trigger his response in between?

Greetz

and thanks for clarification

He won't physically leave play and become your agenda until Step 6 when moribund cards leave play. Then during the next player action (or framework action), during the passives step is when he would come back into play. So since he leaves play after responses, and would come back into play before responses of the next window - I would say no, there is no opportunity to use his response provided the passive condition is met. That's my take on it though. I'm not certain.

Side note: there is an errata on his coming back into play text, so make sure you are meeting that condition.

I see they changed the text to fewer.. So if i have none and an opponent too i am no longer able to unattach griff..

I guess it doesn't work like this but playing an attachment on an opponents char wouldn't change that because i am still the one controlling the attachment, am i right?

I mean something like bastard, harried by dragons, whatever.. in fact it would have the contrary effect..?

That is indeed right. You would control those attachments, so you would have more than your opponent.
