Beginners Box!

By rassilon2, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beta

It's been revealed! Yay!

I'm hoping this means it will be out quickly after the beta period is finished.

$30 is a great price for what you get too.

Though I hope they release more details soon on the final version of the core book, and what the physical dice set will run for too…

I was hoping the final core book release would be a box set too. But this is an interesting compromise between a boxed beginner's set, which will give us dice, and tokens, and maps, and lots of goodies; and what I assume will be a hardback book release for the full core rules.

This is cool, they are hoping to have this available for christmas from the look of it!

Shut up and take my money!

You guys have realised the full rules aren't in this, right?

I mean, I'll probably still get it for the adventure, extra dice, and the floorplans of that freighter.

This is FFG version of this:

right?

"The abridged and simplified ruleset, which is incorporated into the included adventure…"

This sounds like something I am not interested in at all. I assume they are coming out with a full rulebook also, perhaps dice is an add-on.

I am assuming it'll be something like THIS

One thing to take away from this, is that the dice probably aren't going to be adjusted for any symbol spread.

I'm torn.

32 pages is a heckuva lot of adventure, especially considering the amount of content that Sterling Hershey was able to jam into the small space for Crates of Krayts. But part of me wonders how much of the adventure is going to be devoted to rules that aren't addressed in the abridged book.

I'm on the fence right now. I'll definitely be watching for more details.

Well it shows photos right there on the page. It even says that quote i put about being simplified rules. All this just makes it sound like something I would not get, much like the Pathfinder one. I already had the 3 core books… was not going to get the beginner box.

On another note… this is kind of genius for people who were not in the beta, and kind of want to see what it is like. For $30 you can check it out, run an adventure and see if you like it. Kind of brilliant.

I'm getting it for the dice and the adventure if anything. $30 is a steal in my book.

Yeah that is true… unless the 30 pages of the adventure is because they are walking you through the rules… and that is taking up the extra space (which they more or less say in the description, see below).

"The abridged and simplified ruleset, which is incorporated into the included adventure, lets you learn as you play…"

That to me sounds like a lot of space in the adventure. We will have to see I guess.

Had a thought.

What if it's a short series of adventures? Like an introductory "campaign"?

It's being called a 32 page Adventure Book. That does give me some amount of pause for thought. That could be worth $30

Yeah agreed. $30 is a dynamite price for this intro idea for sure.

$30 might be worth it for dice, adventure and the cool maps (they have destiny tokens in there too, but I see no photo of them). We will have to wait and see. I just have a feeling calling this a 30 page adventure might be stretching it a bit. Might be 10 pages of extra training/explaination. Of course… it might still be worth the $30.

I'm probably most excited to get my paws on the ship poster. That seems like a fun thing to have sitting in the center of the table. Moar dice are aways welcome too.

Yeah I am kind of worried what these dice are going to cost. I like having a LOT of dice, all over the place. Specialty dice usually means "more expensive than normal". I mean even if they are $6… a reasonable amount of dice is going to cost me like $50 or more.

This is kind of why I am making my own set (though results so far have been dubious as any who watched that tread saw). LOL.

If you take a look at the photo in the FAQ below the one you linked to you can see the tokens, one white with a combo advantage/triumph symbol and a black one with red lightning and a failure symbol.

For me, our shop is looking to run instore demo's of the game and the box set could be the way to go, giving us great looking components and character sheets that walk the players through the game. This was what WFRP 3e really needed, and again shows that although FFG don't always comment on theses boards, they do listen.

Definitely going to be getting this! I was a bit gutted about them selling out of the beta book before I could afford to get one, so this seems ideal for me. And dice and bits are always good to have!! Even though it seems to be the same adventure that will be included in the core rule book whenever that arrives, at least the releases should be spaced out enough that it won't feel too much like a waste of money.

Does anyone know if the core rule book, when released, is going to be just a book, or will it be a boxed bonanza like Warhammer 3e?

I think that this is great, if I can get it in the UK without the massive postage cost. **** FFG for making shiny products that I will need to get. (I think I have the addiction obligation. happy.gif )

However, I would be very grateful if FFG could come up with 2 additional pregenerated characters as my group usually runs with 5 to 6 PCs.

I realize it doesn't necessarily mean anything, but for adventures with the 40K lines, there are always a couple of extra characters in a downloadable PDF.

I'll be plunking my money down! A decent sized adventure, quality posters and handy images, and right around the corner!

If there is one thing I learned from the Paizo appropriation of all of us 3.x dnd players, is that if you consistently and timely release quality adventures and campaigns, you will succeed.

Oh, **** SKIPPY I'll be getting this - it's worth it just for the map! Plus, considering the hassle of getting blank dice from Chessex for the Beta stickers, it'll be great to have a set of (presumably) professional dice for the game (hopefully they are the SAME as for the full game). The adventure, no worries; you don't need to have access to the full spectrum of rules for an introductory adventure, anyway. And then, there's the spiffy, sexy BOX that appears to be pretty good-sized that we can start packing our Star Wars loot into. I simply adore boxed sets, especially intro/starters - they're pretty much always well worth the money, because the company is willing to take it on the chin a bit in trying to lure you in for the Big Money. This one looks great!

You can count me in too! For only $30 we are getting so much in the box…Dice! Double-sided Map! Adventures and more! Even though we have all been plugging our way through the beta Core Rulebook, the Beginner version may help us understand some of the material we have not fully comprehanded. Even going through the Beginner Adventure could open new insights and give us a better understanding of the game mechanics. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands and this and pouring over all of it!

Hi Testers,

Just to answer a previous poster's question; the Edge of the Empire core rulebook will be a hardcover rulebook, with the dice sold as a separate pack. It will not be a boxed set.

Hope this clears up any confusion!
