For those who have the beta, I'm curious about the setting. Is it restricted to the Rebellion era, following FFG's established pattern for the license, or is it timeline neutral? The title, Edge of the Empire leads me to assume not, but I felt it couldn't hurt to inquire. I've been patiently awaiting this game since the Star Wars acquisition was first announced, because I want to run a campaign that's set in an alternative Prequel Era continuity, reimagined by following the numerous clues found in the Original Trilogy about what happened previously. I can't do that, though, if the setting is intrinsically built around the Rebellion era.
Timeline Neutrality?
It is mostly built around the Rebellion Era, yes. You can find some detailed info on it on it's product page:
All the setting material has been excised from the Beta doc. Having said that I wouldn't hold my breath. Timeline Neutrality is not somthing FFG has even hinted as a goal.
Nothing stops you from using any other system to play though. Fate, Savage Worlds, and GURPS all exist. I'd be shocked if a fan hasn't Savaged Star Wars yet.
Or… these rules. I mean, setting is one thing, and rules another. I'd think the Beta would be perfect for exploring different settings as it has minimal background. Of course, you'll need to be comfortable reskinning what is presented, to fill in the gaps. But I think you should be good to go.
Having a bunch of old WEGs stuff… I have to say, if you use Wookeepedia… you can really do anything you want. I mean for game purposes how different is the Millenium Falcon from the Ebon Hawk? I say rename stuff that is the closest and run with it.

Actually I think at least 3 different conversions have shown up on the Savage Worlds forums in just the last year so far. Probably more since Savage Worlds came out.
I agree that these rules would work well for a fringer campaign in any era. I think they would do Jedi poorly in every era.

Yeah totally. You are pretty much 100% hosed there.
My D6 Campaign has a Force Sensitive with Imperial Training (a la Mara Jade Style). In reworking him, he is going to be a bit more normal than he was originally.. but that is fine, he never used a saber anyway. I just lucked out because I designed my D6 campaign pretty much in the exact vein of this. On Nar Shaddaa and Tatooine… running stuff back and forth from Rim to Hutt Space, just kind of a coincidence really.
