Chicagoland Area Players

By Highball, in X-Wing Organized Play

Let us know if you are in the Chicagoland or suburban area. Beyond just posting, let everyone know the general area (Northside, southside, SW 'burbs, N 'burbs, etc.). This way we can see where we may have some congregation of player.

I plan on also using this thread to announce some venues that are having open events, tournaments or other X-Wing events.

I am in the SW 'burbs and know of one venue in Plainfield that is planning on having regular organized events. They are hopeing to have their first event next Saturday.

Southwest suburbs here. Looking to play at Games Plus, Hobbytown in Orland Park, and maybe Dice Dojo in Chicago.

I can definitely do Games Plus as it is one of my venues for HeroClix already.

He also mentioned a potential game campaign where individual groups have their own squadrons and compete for wins over time. Sounds really cool and I'm definitely keeping an eye on their Facebook for more info.

Sounds like Highball is talking about the Wandering Dragon Game Shoppe in Plainfield! The owner is awesome and he's totally backing this game! He wants to get events going as soon as possible and be ready when the official FF OP program hits.

I have to admit, Spleen, that all sounds great about what the guys at Games Plus have planned, but this isn't really a role playing game - how do you "level up" your pilots, etc.? I'm sure you could House Rule anything…or even base it on the stuff in the Edge of the Empire RPG stuff, but that's going further than this game is currently set to go. Please keep us posted on how this is developing and working out.

For now, mabye I'll see you guys at the Dragon!

You are correct. I am talking about Wandering Dragon. It is 5-10 minutes from my house, so hopefully it will be my regular X-Wing location.

Kevin (owner) and I are currently discussing an event for this Saturday. We are definately set that it will be at 2PM, so mark your calendar. We just aren't sure if it should be open play or a tournament. He is pushing for a tournament. I am leaning towards open play to try to attract new players to the game. I was also worried about new players not being able to field a 100 point team, but with the two shipments of stuff scheduled to get to me today and tomorrow I will have a metric #@*$ ton of ships that I could help suppliment people with. Also, we could run it at a lower total (50-60 points).

Jayster Fett, let me know your thoughts on this. Would you rather have a tournament even if turnout is small or open play? I'm up for either, I just figured open play was the best strategic play for the long term of the venue.

I'm on the north side in Lakeview. Definitely interested in finding regular venues in the city.

This week Kevin hasn't said anything about a buy in as he decided to go with open play. We will possibly start up a tournament if we get a good number of people. As organized play support hasn't started yet, I don't think there will be a prize, but I haven't really asked. I just want to get some games in.

Is there anyone else in the NW burbs? I'm in Elgin. Not opposed to some travel, but am looking for something relatively close to home…

I'm in Naperville but my extended family is still in Bartlett, so I have no problem heading up to the Elgin area. I just don't know of any venues up there.

I'm in the Wheaton/Lisle area. I'm still pretty new to the Chicagoland area; moved here for a job.

Welcome. You just missed the first session at The Wandering Dragon in Plainfield. It would be about 20 minutes from you. Hopefully we will schedule events about every two weeks. I will post when we get the next session. While it was open play today, I hope to run a tournament next time.

Looking for a game group in the area still for LCGs? Netrunner, Warhammer Invasion, Etc? Im looking to start something on 10/20 at games plus in Mount Prospect. Ive always been the beer and pretzel player so once we get a solid group Id be willing to host late night games or find a venue that would. If you are interested PM me at Budbundy or email me at [email protected] and leave me your email so I can ad you to the groups mailing list. Im also working on a website for the group as well that people can post events!

I am in Schaumburg. I am very interested in organized play or at the least finding some other people to play with. Maybe we can get something going at the various Gaming Goats in Elgin/Schaumburg.
