So solo play is doable in this game, now granted i notice the "ai" of the enemy fighters can sometimes be pretty stupid but it also makes for very interesting and unpredictable battles.
So the way i have tried it is as follows.
I build both squads making each as nasty as i can. Then i either choose the sqaud i wanted or randomly choose.
For the planning phase i choose my squads maneuvers, for the enemy ships i do it randomly without looking. then i activate as normal and assign the best most logical actions to each ship, (i tried this random for the enemy but found it more challenging when i choose the best action for them).
Then I rolled each ships combat dice and performed their assigned actions as follows. Then simply repeated those simple steps.
Now sometimes an AI ship would go off the game board, in this case i made a house rule that if they were going to end up off the map they would auto make a koiogran turn, if this wasnt possible they would need to choose a different maneuver. Same goes for if they have a stress token and they try a red maneuver, they would need to randomly choose a new maneuver.
All in all the solo games i tried have been pretty intense, and like i said while sometimes one of the enemy ships decided to go into retard mode and fly off away from the battle i like to think of him as the coward of the group lol. But with the rules adjustments i stated u will still get a chance to hunt them down. But the unpredictability of the game was great, with a human opponent its not nearly so hard to guess where they might head logically, (granted they can surprise you but usually they will try to turn if you are behind them.) With the AI factor i might be thinking they r gonna turn and they continue on straight and a speed of 4 or 5 leaving me turning to the right or left and losing my range on them.
Anyway for those of us who can enjoy solo here my version of the rules for a solo game. Enjoy and feel free to give any recommendations to make the solo experience even more fun and challenging.
But when it finally arrives, I will be trying to play it solo. So this thread is great for me and any tips would be greatly welcome. One thing that I was wondering was, is it worth giving the AI side extra points, 20-25? (a ships worth) As a way to combat any defects in the AI's random strategy. And if the force is strong with the AI, then it would force you to improve your own strategy against a larger force. But if AI ships start to do silly things, then the extra ship will hopefully prevent the battle from being too easy! Just my 2 pennyworth (cents!), but as said, I haven't played it yet so I have no idea if it is any good or not.
