I'm really new to this so apologies if its a stupid question.

I got the starter set and a chapter deck together as presents and have played the starter set a couple of times. With the chapter deck do I add the hero (Bilbao) and the cards to the starter decks - but this would give one of the sets 4 heroes ?????

im a little confused here so apologies if this isnt what youre asking but…..

the chapters dont add on as such, they add to your choices. so bilbo is added to your hero choices- you still can only have max 3 heros and max 3 copies of each card in a deck

you obviously choose a mixed-sphere deck minimum 50 cards, but somewhere around 50-53 is the norm.

so with the core set and hunt for gollum you now have all those cards to chose from, when/if you get any more chapters this will add to your choices but the rules remain the same- 3 heros, max 3 of each card and minimum 50 card deck

many thanks, very much appreciated - I naively believed that each player only played with heroes and cards from one "Spheres of Influence".

can you also mix and match in the multi player version as long as no heroes are duplicated ? Presumably in multi-player format there's an advantage if each player's heroes/deck focuses on a different "Sphere of Influence" to create a balance of capabilities.

yes thats correct- so one player could be playing a 'fighting deck' with say leadership and tactics and the other could be questing and healing with lore and spirit

alternatively you could both be playing spirit/lore of whatever

of course it is possible with your current card pool to field all of the spheres at once, you could have a lore hero, a spirit hero and a tactics hero, and then you could use 'song of kings' to give you the leadership sphere

Sorry if you've already figured this one out, but when you're playing multiplayer make sure you only have one unique card in play at a time. Those are the cards with the little circular symbol by the name (heroes, Faramir, Steward of Gondor, et al.).

Hope that helps.
