There's a whole galaxy of guns out there (and more than a handful of swords, too). I want to know what everyone's favorite set-up for a weapon is across the systems?

I'm partial to any sort of shotgun with the Solid Slugs (from Rogue Trader: Hostile Acquisitions) and some sort of pistol grip set-up on it. The whole Arbites shtick is fun to me, so I love blowing away heretics so solidly. The modified bolt shells for shotguns (same book) also make me happy. I've also seen some kind of ridiculous gun capable of obliterating most opponents at 400 thrones, and saw a gun that abused Ork upgrades to dead 12d10+144 damage or some such nonsense (I think it shot flaming lightning that dealt Explosive damage?)

Bolters. I love bolters. If I can get my grubby hands on one, I'll use it. I've only had three characters that didn't use bolt weapons first chance they got. The first one was a Techpriestess; she preferred a plasma gun instead. The second was a Krieg Stormtrooper, who preferred her Hellgun, but later on I was planning on giving her a heavy bolter and a backpack ammo feed (and even later, upgrade to an assault cannon).

The last one deserves his own paragraph; he was a young blond Cleric from Maccabeus Quintus, a calm fellow who always seemed to have a smile on his face. Under his podium in his church, in order to discourage troublemaking (and for self defense), he kept an Armageddon-pattern autogun, which he named Suzy. A commonly-asked question in regards to his weapon were "What the hell do you need that thing for, hunting ambulls?" He'd simply smile knowingly back at them.

Every single time he pulled Suzy's trigger in the campaign, something died. Semi-auto, single shot, full auto, he even managed to tag a Genestealer while performing suppressing fire. Even when he bought a bolter late in the campaign, he continued to use Suzy because of how ridiculously lucky my rolls were with that gun. I guess the moral of the story is that named weapons are lucky.

As a Ecclesiarch of rank 6 i fight with an Evicerator and it's a wonderfull close combat weapon, If the place is too small I fight with classic chainsword.

For range combatr I've two option: Bolter and damned it is great to blow the heretics, xenos and other foolish enough to oppose the mighty will of the Inquisition and the church, If waiting for fighting in corridors I use the heavy flamer and once more how delightfull to burn 500m² of corrupt ennemy of the Imperium.

On my rank 13 Crusader/Guardsman I prefer the standard issue crusader shield and power sword. When things become serious I bust out the thunder hammer. The only ranged weapon I bother using is a flamer. My crusader is rocking a 9 strenth bonus and a straight up strength score of 80. The new suit of power armor is just icing on the cake.

The shield is very nice when combined with power armor, the stacking armor values makes the shield worth giving up a second weapon. Last session I had a Lathe-Pattern shield made, because when I counter attacked with my old crusader shield it was parried by a power weapon and destroyed.

I also want to mention the usefulness of Unarmed Combat, with the right talents it is very lethal. I use unarmed attacks (kicks, headbutts, whatever) and a sword for the two weapon wielder fighting style, since the shield occupies the other hand. Kicking genestealers int he face never got old.

How the hell did you get your strength so high? That doesn't seem physically possible.

Choose Feral Worlder and manage to roll 20 for strength = 45
Luck out and get brute mutation when ship's field flickers and you are forced to take a mutation by the GM = 55
Take 5 advances in strength = 80
Get power armor for more strength = 100

And for lolz:
Get low quality muscle replacement for +1 unnatural strength bonus (can't go good quality since brute mutation screwed over agility already)

If we're going by all books, DH or otherwise: You're gonna need some strength, or the right mutations to really take advantage of this though. This is for a Techpriest, using the newest stuff; it worked fine before Integral components but they truly are delicious now. Get a high quality EPC, and you'll save on "good" quality across the board. Don't need to tell you about motion predictors, spoor targeters, the new OW version Targeters and anything else you can fit on there is obviously "try to get it if GM allows that one" for all of them: upgrade your stuff.

Sidearm: Ripper Pistol with Maglev-Impeller. A harsh piece of work for a simple SP weapon. If you don't like or can't access that, might I suggest the Carnodon, instead focused on single-shot [so red-dot instead]? It'll do right by you.

Melee: Focusing on dodge here, with the packs or wing mutations or whatever, leave melee to your raptor buddies. So instead of a parrying counterstrike monster: Try out that new, flexible Coil-Whip. One of the best un-parriables, for when one of those khornites gets a little in your face. You don't want HIM getting those free counters or avoiding your hits with WS now do you? Again, Integral, Monowhip. Shocking at -30 off a swift attack? yes please. Added bonus: the Ripper makes a fine other-hand for this.

Primary [but less than big-social-function-friendly]: Integral M41 Multilaser… OR an Autocannon. Both provide light to moderate Antivehicle levels of damage given half a chance, but there's just something about a Tech Priest's "servo-harness" replacing all its stuff with the four barrels of an MIU-linked Reaper-Auto that turns heads all around.

By heads I mean turrets.

By turrets I mean those big ones on vehicles.

By vehicles I mean Baneblades.

Do be careful with those things. Once you're visibly a comparatively squishy-looking threat to tanks, you just topped priority lists.

One more thing: If you need just one weapon, and you're not sure what it is, and you're not certain what you'll be facing, but you're pretty sure you're going to want to be able to deal with lots of things in lots of situations pretty **** well, if not "ideally" like the guy with six guns for each occasion? Get yourself a Pulse Rifle. Short of Tank or Great-Unclean-One hunting[chimera or sentinel you can try it if you've got good dice and mighty shot], you'll never go wrong with Pulse… you could just technically have gone more-right with other weapons for that specific situation.

Unless of course you're a mekboy. Then you should be dragging a machinegun around that puts out 3d10+5orhigher Type E or X unstable twin-linked Storm shots off a ridiculous RoF with enough bonuses to almost put you on par with a dedicated stormtrooper's accuracy there. OR taping a burna in sword-mode to a burna in burna-mode so you can have your power-blade and eat it too.

Nice choices so far guys and gals. My gm was a dedicated TT player so he was happy to dish out the gear. I'm normally not a gear-porn fan, but he offered so what was a bad ass assassin to do?

For most of the Haarlock legacy my Assassin was packing an Orthlak MKIV autopistol and it proved very good at blowing away heretics. It had a fire selector and surpressor.

Despite gm pushing me to get a bigger gun my pc didn't want to give it up. We compromised and some high level =I= gunsmithing turned it into the following. I know it's very high power and breaks the combi weapon ammo rules, but I was still less heavily equipped than the rest of the party.

Combi Pistol: Orthlak MKIV Combi Inferno Pistol.
Fire Selector: One Clip reduced for full inferno Pistol Flask.
Loadout: Clip#1: 12x Manstoppers, Clip#2: 12xBlessed Amputator, Clip#3: 3xBlessed Inferno
Accessories: Surpressor on Auto Pistol
Sights: Spoor Targetter (full auto into melee, frak yeah!).

Sword: Sanctified Lathe Sword with an additional +1 damage and penetration.

Other pistol: Fykos Forge Flametongue howdah pistol. Loaded with Blessed Lathe high density penetrators (I had 6 of these), T save or be knocked down. Worked on a Slaught!

Dual shot with these two bad boys one-shotted an adult psychenunin. So the gm gave us two more to fight!

Call me old fashioned but a red dot scoped nomad hunting rifle loaded with lathe hyper density rounds is tough to beat. Especially if you can afford to get a best quality one. That or point blanking on full auto with a vanahiem.

The impeller is from Hostile Acquisitions. It replaces the standard chemical firing with an unspecified electromagnetic method [probably not rail, so likely gauss coils in the barrel?]. This adds a lasgun charge-pack to the weapon, increasing the effective reload tme… unless of course you're running it off your coils.

In exchange, you add +1 damage and +10 range. Piddling increase for an autocannon [get it anyways] but spectacular boosting for a pistol.

Shotguns are one of the best weapons in DH, so versitaile and a great selection of ammo, even turning your gun into a handcannon (solid slugs 1d10+5 Pen2) or a simple flamer (the primitive blazer shells).

Then the models themselves, from the slightly cheesy ironclaw, to the awesome vanaheim, to all the other combat shotgun models (one of my favorites is the Persecutor from Hostile Acquisitions), then you have the shotgun pistol and the puritan-14 and even the hack shotgun, (which if you use 2x of any ammo but shells can get confusing, do you get tearing on two slugs? Two blazers? Two special "shot" ones?)

Overall a great series of guns and you even have one on your spectre!

Otherwise Handcannons are fun for many PCs, I am partial to a nice autopistol (or pair of them) at times. The Armageddon is a classic autogun.

Sadly though, in the normal DH (unless you use the BC Variable Setting rule), Lasweapons suck a bit. In RT and BC they get bumped a bit in different ways, but they pale behind autoguns/pistols otherwise. (Besides the Sollex/special versions). With the BC rule they finally get the love they deserve.

Edit: Forgot the noble hunting rifle, awesome when used well, horrible when just cheesed. With special mention to the Nomad, the perfection of it with a way too low availability

To be fair, compared to… uh, anything really, variable-settings still lacks in everything it needs to be worth considering. The only good part about a lasgun is it has sixty shots for decent range. You're not going to kill a Nob in plates of scrap before he finishes sniping you by throwing choppas, not without confirming Righteous Fury. Forget going against a guy in carapace who owns a hellgun.

Then you bring it up to about as good as an autogun with slightly-above-average-ammo-but-not-the-awesome-special-stuff, sure, but at what cost? The "we literally could NOT discover a way to make this more reliable than it already is" most reliable weapon in the galaxy just turned prone to shorting out, and you've downed your ammo count to that of a badly constructed autopistol. At least the OW Triplex has settings that actually mean something. That there's a good gun now.

Even the overcharge packs are unimpressive for something that should be an upgrade. use that on Overload and, what, one eighth the normal charge? just enough for seven shots, in exchange for what, plus three to damage, one penetration, and a high likelihood that your solid-state laser somehow found a way to jam?

Make it 75% on the OC Pack, +1/+2 on overcharge, +2/+4 on overload and it loses reliable unless its Good or higher Quality. 'Bout time we have a reason to get higher quality versions of the most common weapon class.

What is the difference between the triplex and a BC lasgun really?

I have a PC, Red an Squat from the 3rd "Mercy Bring Volg Imperial Guard Unit, his small clan survived on Volg as mostly as Reclaimators who packs a Customized Meathammer with Red Dot, Compact and Pistol Grip. It is designed as a "Holdout" gun for him, also works great for problem solving as long as they are unarmored!!!

My Assassin also went through the whole campaign with a humble Hunting Rifle. Fitted with a surpressor and a red-dot and loaded with manstoppers it provided excellent service and he refused to give it up, carrying it when range might be a factor.

Another favourite of his was a ceramic, compact, monobladed combat knife. D5+2 Pen2 nearly undetectable. Excellent for those 'no weapons allowed in here sir' moments.

@Kiton, I like the Impellor, something like a Carnodon, or as you say a Ripper would go very nicely with that.

The triplex actually has three seperate modes.

Standard, Precision [s/-/-, gain Accurate, 150m base], or Incinerator [s/-/- 50m gain Felling[5] and Proven[4]]

so, lasgun that doubles as a slightly weaker Long-Las, and can do far-better-than-hellgun damage against high toughness baddies

As our group allows Pistols to utilize the Accurate Weapon Trait to its full potential, I'm partial to the single-shot "Valentine" Dueling Las with a Hot-Shot Charge Pack and a Red-Dot Sight. Full Action Aim (+20), Accurate (+10) and Red-Dot (+10) gives me a modified BS 89 (considering no modifiers for Range or target Size. Max Damage is 3d10+4, Pen 4, Tearing. Hot-Shot makes it Unreliable, but I (usually) have a Fate Point hanging around to re-roll that 91+.

Also got my hands on the Dark Eldar Splinter Pistol from 'Shades of Twilight'.

For mine, I allow +1d10 max on pistol, Basics suffering an uncompensated handling penalty, or heavy weapons from Accurate. Its done well for us so far, keeping a bonus without making twin wrath maximals the go-to for every big-game pistol user out there.

In regards to basics, that's to cover Carbines being used one-handed unless loaded with a Targeter, full-sized guns without a recoil glove or armor installation, etc. That means you do in fact want that weapon-bracing or forearm mount if you want a free hand and your bonuses.

Successful dodges against aimed accurate weapons cancel the bonus DoS of the weapon first: if you hit by 4DoS for +2d10 damage, and the target dodges with 2 DoS, that's -3, bringing you to just 1: you deal normal damage, but at least still hit. Otherwise everything and their mother was dodging them. They've got it hard enough as is with fields anyways, they deserved a bone.

For Storm weapons, the Accuracy damage bonus is split. +1d5 each hit at 2DoS, +1d10 each at 4 DoS.

I introduced the "pistol" stock for pistols. Increasing the range by 50% and turning it into a basic weapon. Takes 1 round to fix to a pistol.

I don't really see the point of a pistol stock when recoil gloves are a thing.
