Hey guys, I'm still getting a feel for this game. I have to say I've been having a lot of fun so far. Would anyone know which chapter packs would be the first to buy if I wanted to build a nights watch deck? I wish to expand all of my houses as I have purchased all of the deluxe expansions, but I was wondering which of the chapter packs some of the veteran players would recommend and why. Thanks guys!
Best chapter packs?
Most of the Night's Watch related cards are in the "Defenders of the North" chapter pack cycle, so that's where I'd start if Night's Watch is what interests you. You'll also find a lot of "Wildlings" in there, which can result in some pretty fun themed pairings.
These packs have now been reprinted in the 3x20 card format for a while, but just to be sure make sure you're buying the new format and not some old 40 card packs.
Refugees of War: Contains the free refugee char for every house. Almost always useful when building a deck.
Tourney for the Hand: Has good characters for every house. (Meera reed and Barristan Selmy are both monsters)
Where loyalties lie: Same but less useful for martell (except if you play mainly multiplayer)
As istarii said, the defenders of the north chapter packs contain the most Night Watch characters but be advised that the theme, at the moment, is lacking in strength. But if you want a Night Watch's deck be sure to look at The Grand Melee for Old Bear's Crow and in Trial by combat for first ranger .
Go to AGOTCards.org and use the "Search" Function to find Night's Watch cards. Then decide which ones you want, and which Chapter Packs you need.
If you're hesitant to buy a Chapter Pack just to get that one card you need, you can often find them on TradeCardsOnline.com, and I've been seeing more and more available on eBay.
Yea, if you're looking to play uber-competitively Mig is correct. The Night's Watch won't pull much weight against a gaming group that is willing to net-deck and play the top tier decks. And while it sounds like it could be fun, consider the fact that you will lose games consistently against top tier decks. If you're challenging yourself to build a top-tier deck out of Night's Watch, though, go for it! And if you're in a group that is just going to play whatever the hell they want to play, go for it as well!
