The Future of Water

Order and Law.

Aaaand...Water's always been awesome.

Once Water loses Feline and Defender (because there's no way in hell such crutch cards won't go unpunished in March or April)

Steve has already said that he sees no problem with Feline Spike(as well as saying that no orange cards are being looked at for ban) at all so nothing is going to happen to it any time soon as far as I know.

Also how exactly is Water better than Air come block 3? I love Water and it's one of my favorite symbols but the fact that it has no answers to the Owl(other than Natures Force which isn't really an answer) severly hurts it's chances of being in the top spots whereas Air has 2 and each of them has a 6 check...

All doesn't have an answer either. And yet people lose their minds when something good has All, claiming that it's good enough and didn't need the boost (which, let's be real, it IS). How good a symbol is can't reliably be determined based on what answers it has to Olcadan's Mentoring (though as one of the most game-changing cards of last year, you'd do well to keep it in mind).

I'm hoping that was for the post as a whole, because I don't want to have to choose between Order and Law (<3) or the Water symbol (<3).

And email replied to. I knew there was something I was forgetting to do >_<

Ed: Stupid edit function. Well, the other half of my post in now quoted =/

Exactly shinji you really need to stop spreading things around which have no proof at all Steve has said in SOTG's and interview's no attacks including feline spike are even being looked at. All this does is turn away players let talk about stuff that new players want to hear about like how awesome set 12 is going to be . Or even this awesome promotion where FFG is giving out tons of free product from set 8 .

I have to point out this because it made me lol. I got name dropped in this discusion! WOOT.
On that subject, bad day at nats. Started 3-0 then bad matchups and happy holidays after mulliganing 3-5 answers does not make for a good day. But I digress.

Ne who water is good. Standalone symbol water is not. Water has no way to force damage short of toss attacks and hope you run out of blocks. In the current enviroment thats just not going to cut it. People are screaming defender. But without Lord backing it up defender isn't as broken as you would think. Yea it gets some tappity tap on the side it still cant consistently force its attacks.

Is water getting better? Yes very much so. But olcodan's is a format defining card right now. Water has 0 answers to this. Water will never top b/c of this on ANY kind of regularity. Would I like to see water start consistently making the top tables? Yes. But I'm attempting to give an unbiased opinion here.

another isue with water is that it's best charecters are better on other symbols. chun li and felicia are better on air, and sogetsu and seong mina are better with order. i think water has the best 5 hs chars in the game, and if ufs ever becomes a game less dominated by handsize water could make a serious comeback.

I currently run a pure Water Sakura deck, sporting Feline Spike as the kill. It has very few losses.

Water is ballin. It just doesn't have anything for Olcadan's, just like All.

And that doesn't stop you from playing it, or an All player from playing an All deck. Again, I point to Alex.

It may not be healthy for the play environment per se, but neither is it the end of the world.

While this is currently true, water did have dirty pool and WAYS TO READY IT, back to my original point that water has always been amazing.

As far as puching attacks though water does have some methods, unfortunatley they are almost all speed pump based. Kung fu training is still a great speed boost and honestly a decent answer to rejection that tends to get passed up on other symbols that have better answers. They also have natures defender, quest for vengance, and empires ruin, ruin probably being the best on the list. Sadly they are all small speed boosts, but do get better in multiples.

Also water now has some really good utility attacks that havent had the chance to shine, including Annu Mutsube, High tide, Kid sister, and Rera Kishi Matek. All these attacks are really just waiting for something to come along and tie what they do together and your gonna see them used a lot (Rera Kishi Matek I think is going to make huge impact just cause its a throw with a 3 check)

Water also has discard from the latest set.

Water has always been a second rate symbol, but in block 3 it has been given some powerful support. Such as: Defender, Chester's Backing, Hoyoku Sen, and Feline Spike. So we have great win conditions, and we have powerful support, and now I want to know how everyone feels about the role Water might play in the coming major tourney season.

Discuss

. Im interested to see what comes up after april 5th when we have 2 east coat regionals .

Wait what now sorpresa.gif there's going to be two east coast regionals when and where was this announced ?

There is at least 3

One in TN with Scott Gaines group

One in VA that unigame is hosting

And the SCC I am hosting in FL

And a 4th in MD on May 16th. More on that as i get details finalized :D

us east-coasters are going to have quite a bit of traveling to do...

I heard its going to be one week away from the SCC. I just hope people dont have to pick which one to go too and start this whole conflict thing again like we had before.

i think it's about 18 hours between scc and maryland so i think it won't be a conflict for most people.

well it's about 5-7 hours from here to SC (depending on were) so it's probably more like 14-12 hours between regionals. my point is, a lot of people won't go to both because they are too far away. i for one don't have the ability to make the 14 hour hike to scc, so it won't be a disision for me.

OMG! another event close to me awesome count me in for sure

None of which has anything to do with the Water resource...

I know that come rotation, I'm really going to miss Luise. She was one of the most brutal Water characters I've ever played (heck, she was pretty crazy off Air, too).

I dunno I never played against a good luise deck I was always afraid of getting turn one by ukyo playing against water but then again he can do that off any symbol.....

Luise had not only a built in geri loop without needing ibis but anti hax potential and a tourney caliber 7 HS. top all that off with her being able to use linguistics better than other people and she was a winner. I almost ran her in teams this year but opted for 12 just cause i knew him better. She will be missed but honestly even if she were to stay all her good support is going bye bye. She does combo well off water though (high tide, shooting cap, so on and so forth)

Feline Spike, discard Clones/Soldier.

GG turn 1?
